Hey look it's a new constant stream of useless bitter trolls to make an appearance and threadshiat because they're bitter other Farkers have done more in a few days to help others than they will ever do in their lives.

It's interesting that you only get 3-4 trolls at a time. I guess the workload from so many alts gets tiring. And nothing better to do on a Friday night...

What I find most interesting is that there's been hatred for both GJTB and this. Some of them were the same people!

Ah well. We're doing cool things. The nice part is that it doesn't need their approval.

Dow Jones and the Temple of Doom: theorellior: Dow Jones and the Temple of Doom: It's about feeding hungry folks... so why this particular kitchen, and why immediately after the Paul Ryan photo-op? Were there no hungry people before that story broke? Are there no hungry people you could make a bigger impact on locally? Because we're snarking on Ryan, and you're being butthurt. Go be disingenuous somewhere else.

Butthurt about what? You think I'm a Romney/Ryan supporter?

But fair enough, I'll go be disingenuous somewhere else. You guys keep raising money for this kitchen, which in no way has anything to do with the fact that the republican candidate had a failed photo op there just days before this donation drive started. This obviously isn't the thread for being disingenuous. Ciao

Any idea what this place's annual budget is? 10k is going to happen by Sunday at the latest, Fark is going to be doing an amazing amount of good.

Sometimes it helps to give a man a fish so he can eat until he picks learns to do it himself. It's pretty tough to learn a trade on an empty stomach.

Ya. Besides, the Mahoning River is too toxic to swim in much less eat the fish.

Good on ya all! Is this thread another IQ dump? One or two have nominated themselves to me so far.

As far as tax deductability, is concerned, I would venture the opinion that 95% of folks could consider a donation to be a charitable one, whether they received a IRS recognized receipt or not. The IRS is no all-seeing, all-knowing hall monitor that's going to be calling you down on $25 donated through indiegogo. If you're so afraid of running afoul of an auditor, you've got much bigger skeletons in your financial closet.

I think that the much of the "hatred" could be better described as snarkily poking fun at the gleeful, self-congratulatory circle jerk aspect of it all. I've used the middle school yearbook committee analogy before.

This is what I imagine the brainstorming sessions to look like.

Well, the campaign goes for 45 days total, so it runs until December 1. The rate of funds incoming will probably go down as the Mahoning County SVDP now has their own donation site, which I linked to, but we'll still have a nice chunk of change for them when the campaign ends.

No, I can't change the duration of the campaign, it's locked once you start it.

Lets fund all the soup kitchens

Awesome idea!

If nothing else maybe they could each donate a ton of their soups!

Or what about Top Ramen and

I think it might happen tonight, actually.

I have one question about this though, since I've never heard of the organization and the website doesn't exactly address this. Does this soup kitchen require those they feed to sit through a sermon before dinner? I volunteered at one years ago that did that, which I don't really have a problem with, except the preacher was completely 'fire and brimstone'. So I'm just curious how this place handles it.

I actually am not hating on Ryan for the photo op. I think he made a tactical error... he should have just called around until he could get a spot helping, then get his photo op at some point.

I think that people in this thread should also try and keep the smug in-your-face-Ryan to a minimum, as you run counter to the spirit of the charity which the thread revolves around... apolitical helping. This soup kitchen. Not as a rebuke of Ryan's error, but to counter the fallout.

This thread in part is potential for raising funds. Don't shout down a side and possibly hurt the flow. Of course, free country and free thread. This is just advice.

IndieGoGo does but I elected not to use PayPal when setting up this campaign, because of PayPal's history of locking up accounts that receive large amounts of money in a short time and taking weeks or months to release it.

That's too bad. I only use Pay Pal for on line.

But I shall donate locally, by check.
