Well, I suppose they thought it was a better cause than #GiveJoeTheBird.

I'm still not sure if I have a handle on this new Fark Us tab thingy. But wouldn't this be a good place for that? Can we cross list?

I did tag this for FarkUs when I submitted it, so it should go there...assuming it gets a green. (please, mods?) :)

A cross list to Main would be very helpful though.

All right, let's try to keep this positive, eh? I'm going to be talking to the media on Monday and it would be nice if the questions weren't all about Fark but rather about the campaign.

Now that THIS soup kitchen has all the publicity it needs, how about helping your LOCAL soup kitchen instead?

But if you donate to soup kitchens in other cities you get to help the homeless and encourage them to not live near you. It's a win/win!

/Seriously though, everyone should donate

Spending money on something to be used as a photo op is bettern than spending money on something because of a photoshop?

This is the apolitical thread for the apolitical charity group.

There's a whole snarky thread on the Pol Tab to call people names and throw around baseless accusations against each other.

Sometimes it takes a bit for the Politics Tab to wear off. It's not like a light switch.. you have to ease in and out of there.

vermicious k'nid: Indiegogo doesn't do Paypal or Amazon? WTF?

IndieGoGo does but I elected not to use PayPal when setting up this campaign, because of PayPal's history of locking up accounts that receive large amounts of money in a short time and taking weeks or months to release it.

I'll give them $20. But I prefer to do it through the direct link to the charity itself, which our Farker organizers are quick to mention is an option. (Gotta get that tax receipt, after all. Thanks for showing me how it's done, Mitt!)

Ah, blue-staters and libruls picking up the slack for the Political Party of Peace™. In other words, business as usual.

Way to go! I am really liking this new FarkUs thing. Give Joe the bird has been tons of fun, and this fundraiser is awesome. I also found a new author up there. It's starting to feel even more like a community than it did before. Kudos to Drew and everyone involved in all these projects!

Well, it's the small things that keep you sane. I won't lie - I've seen far more horror than good in my years, but it only takes something fairly minor to erase so much of the bad stuff from memory. I do not believe that humans are fundamentally decent beings, but I also know that I can't live my life constantly thinking that lest it corrode my heart.

Stuff like this is always a treat.

I've never contributed to a political campaign in my life, but this is a worthy goal. No one should go without food due to any campaign. Republican or Democrat, please contribute. :)

Correct, you can donate directly to the Society of Saint Vincent dePaul at their website. There is also a PayPal email that the individual chapter has set up. However, when I created the IndieGoGo campaign the only way to donate was to the national charity or send a check by mail to a PO Box in Ohio.

Since I knew that a lot of people who would otherwise donate had never even seen a checkbook as a lot of younger people don't even use them (I'm 42 and write 2 or 3 a year), and that it would leverage IGG's sharing and tallying functionality, and that it was a way of specifically thumbing our nose at the people who wanted to make feeding hungry people a political issue, it was a good idea, I think.

I'm really pleased and frankly amazed at how fast it's taken off. With 44 days left, who knows what it will get to?

2012-10-19 06:55:04 PM
So, is it solely for the hungry people in need, or for a feel-good moment with Paul Ryan?

/hope there's no legitimate raping happening in the kitchen

I realize that it could be taken that way, but our goal starting this was simply to make sure that people who depend on this soup kitchen don't suffer because of partisan politics.
