Notabunny: fta Sadly, it is not the only Romney, as his campaign for the White House has made abundantly clear, first in his servile courtship of the tea party in order to win the nomination, and now as the party's shape-shifting nominee. From his embrace of the party's radical right wing, to subsequent portrayals of himself as a moderate champion of the middle class, Romney has raised the most frequently asked question of the campaign: "Who is this guy, really, and what in the world does he truly believe?"

He's got Romnesia. But there's good news! Obamacare covers preexisting conditions.

Blond chick on the left at about 2:17 starts twirling her hair something fierce. I'm pretty sure what she's doing after the rally.

Orlando Sentinel is apparently giving their nod to Romney this year after giving it to Obama in 2008. Their reasoning is the slow economic growth.

Mildly interesting factoid but not particularly meaningful in the grand scheme of things.

He was at 70% this morning, and the blog post was about Obama's comeback in the state polls. The model has only been updated in the last hour or two to reflect a new drop due to new polls that were just added in.

Maybe turned off by Barack and Co.'s inexplicable "Big Bird" straw grasping philosophy and the Libya debacle is now mainstream.

Where, we ask, is the pragmatic, inclusive Romney, the Massachusetts governor

I see this mentioned once in a while but they are usually not people from MA. We had 20 years of republican governors in MA and Romney was the cooler, even disgraceful Jane Swift didn't accomplish that.

The article seemed to be a pretty accurate description of the election so far, more than anything else.

I was a little disappointed in the lip service to the flash in the pan events - the 47 percent thing, the Benghazi thing. Those are things that make you sit up and "whoa!", but they shouldn't really change your vote. A smart voter takes the long view and looks at the total picture, and SLT is right, nobody knows - including, I think, the candidate himself if his budget talks are anything to judge by - what a Romney presidency would be.

We can thank the Tea Party again. In order to get the Republican nomination you've got to go Gary-Busey-on-bathsalts crazy. Then, to appeal to moderates, you've got to tack waaaay the hell back to the center. Anyone that's been paying attention know that Mitt will say anything he thinks will advance his chances of getting re-elected.

I think he's really a pragmatic moderate corporatist type, and without the Tea Party he may well have run as such and won.

Now he's stuck shaking the hell out of that Etch-a-Sketch and every single person who's been paying ANY attention know he'll say whatever his audience at the time wants to hear. Strangely, his base, upon which he's done a 180 (most markedly during the first debate) are so gung-ho about getting Obama out that they don't seem to give a shiat that he lied his ass off to them for months.

starsrift: the 47 percent thing

It's a bit more than a flash in the pan thing. Obama's not after changing votes, he's exciting the base about voting for him. Romney's jumping from one base that's already decided to another, and he actually believes he's changing voters' minds as much as he changes his. Why else, when NH and PA were all but called for Obama, did he waste time and money there immediately after the bad news? He's a salesman with a crappy product and a ridiculous pitch.
