dr_blasto: What's the message? Are you saying that media conglomerates are disinclined to support Republicans because Republicans are bad for business?

Any money in it?

In supporting Republicans? NO at least, not long term.

I'm wondering that one myself.

It's a traditional potato and corn flake dish that Mormons will serve at funerals. I'm guessing it's probably officially called something else, but I know them as funeral potatoes

Obama's foreign policy record is perhaps his strongest suit, especially compared to Romney's bellicose posture toward Russia and China and his inflammatory rhetoric regarding Iran's nuclear weapons program.

Before the debates the scariest thing about Romney/Ryan was the supreme court justices these social conservatives were going to nominate. After the debates and the lies Ryan was telling the upcoming Iran war is scarier.

GAT_00: It says a lot when the biggest paper of the most Republican state in the country endorses a Democrat.

There have long been "two papers" in SLC, the Tribune and the Deseret News.

Ever since Utah applied for statehood, the church has made efforts to put up a front to hide their authoritarian rule over the state. The Tribune was created to serve that purpose.

Deseret News / Salt Lake Tribune = "good cop" / "bad cop".

You've never been to Utah I see.

While I don't think it's a newsflash, I think Obama leading by double digits in Massachusetts and now this is a bad thing for Mitt. At one point Rmoney must have been a good Mormon, but he has strayed so far from the faith that he's like a Catholic priest who doesn't diddle little boys.

Percentage of Mormons in Salt Lake City is around 34 percent, and in Utah as a whole it's 62 percent. Other than that, you are completely correct!

There are many people (especially Christians) who are skittish about voting for Romney out of fear that as a Mormon, he'll be getting his marching orders from Salt Lake.

Outsiders seeing an article in the SALT LAKE TRIBUNE endorsing OBAMA might go a long way in alleviating those fears by leading them to believe that Romney and the church leaders don't see eye-to-eye.

This article isn't going to make a whit of difference in Utah, which will undoubtedly go for Romney in ANY case, but it may well swing enough fence-sitters in other states to push him over the top.

Kudos to Romney, and to his bosses at Temple Square.

Well played, sirs.

I hope that makes up for the subscribers they lose. Utah is as safe as safe gets for Romney.

Seems the once Obama-backing Orlando Sentinel (see: swing state) now recognizes their error in judgement and have endorsed Romney...most likely due to their fears from his bosses at Temple Square.

What the hell are you talking about? If that was genuinely the strategy, then it's a pretty risky one. First of all, the Christian conservatives who are wary of Romney's Mormonism aren't exactly known for picking up on such subtle messages. And second, this is far more damaging for Romney as it again highlights how even people who SHOULD support him don't because he lacks character and conviction.

Not a good day in Romneyland.

2012-10-19 07:21:25 PM
fta Sadly, it is not the only Romney, as his campaign for the White House has made abundantly clear, first in his servile courtship of the tea party in order to win the nomination, and now as the party's shape-shifting nominee. From his embrace of the party's radical right wing, to subsequent portrayals of himself as a moderate champion of the middle class, Romney has raised the most frequently asked question of the campaign: "Who is this guy, really, and what in the world does he truly believe?"

He's got Romnesia. But there's good news! Obamacare covers preexisting conditions.

Me thinks Romney is behind on his payments to the LDS church.
