My wife works as a claims adjuster for a major national insurance company and this attempt is so common they don't bother to press insurance fraud charges. They just deny the full coverage (if they can prove it) and move on

I wonder how many more people will try to make a political point of this.
It is not even close to the same thing.

If she had been denied car insurance by all the insurance companies based on her previous speeding ticket 3 years ago then maybe there would be something similar.

See, meanwhile my car insurance rolled over, claimed responsibility for a car I barely TAPPED (as in, I took foot off brake at light and it rolled), they had zero damage but tried to pin other damage on me...

They paid to paint their cat. Then turned around and upped my car insurance $700 a year.

When you rear-end someone you're at fault about 99.9% of the time. At this point it's about as cut and dry a claim situation as they have out there.

Get the cheapest car and the cheapest insurance possible and if your car gets damaged, just leave it.

Wait, I just realized that I pay $450/yr for insurance and have never made a claim. I'm paying for other people to be crappy inconsiderate drivers who get in accidents.

lol... where the strike out text starts is basically where I stopped reading. You can't even perform the simplest of simple car maneuvers - that of staying stopped at a fricking stop light, and now the rest of the world is at fault?

What if you're on a steep hill with a standard shift, and some dumbass rolls up to about a foot behind you at a stop, and you roll into them?

/Hasn't happened yet, but I'm waiting for it.

I've mediated several auto claims cases, and the biggest issue I have with insurance companies--which are actually not out to screw either party about 65% of the time--is that their medical claims departments have apparently not caught up with recent medical discoveries regarding soft-tissue injuries. The most common thing seems to be when someone gets rear-ended, feels okay at the scene, and then not surprisingly develops neck or back pain several days later. The victim is not scamming, even the insurance adjuster agrees; but the insurance company won't pay because the injury "wasn't received at the time of the accident."

Alternate scenario: Victim had already been seeing a chiropractor or sports therapist before the accident and now the adjustor won't agree to pay for treatment post-accident because "you were already being treated by that practitioner". Insurance companies in general don't seem to realize that in most cases nowadays, car accidents don't produce traumatic life-ending injuries, but rather low-grade, painful injuries that may take several days to manifest. That doesn't mean the victim is lying or scamming. (Although they might be)

The party in the rear car would most likely be cited for being too close. Getting cited is usually alarm bell number one in being at fault.

/No I do not work for them

but state farm and allstate are both supremely expensive, dude, and will NOT look after you once you've made a claim.people go for the insurance they can afford. very few people go for the cheap insurance just for shiats and giggles. if someone else is offering the 'same' insurance but a couple hundred dollars a year (or month) cheaper... you take the cheaper offer. Paying for 'the good' insurance won't put food on your table unless you get in an accident... and after that, your rates will rise so high with the 'good insurance' you won't be able to afford anything but the suck shiat anyway.

/insurance rates need to be severed from credit record
