Warrener: bubo_sibiricus: Speciation is only sticky if you believe the world is 6000 years old.

And if you believe that, I have a bridge to sell you.

Believe what you want, but speciation is pretty tricky to explain in general. It's only been pretty recently that we've been able to observe it.

From memory of bio 102 there was an accidental experiment involving some sort of ocean worm, and from an EP book I listened to recently they've found a guy in China who is perfectly healthy but only has 22 chromosome pairs.

Speciatiion is only tricky to explain because it's totally artificial. Humans made up a definition as to what constitutes a biological group and then try to shoehorn everything into that definition whether it fits or not. Just as a for-instance, we've got Canis lupus, the wolf, and Canis latrans, the coyote, which should be separate species, but not only can they breed successfully, they often do in the wild. Only very recently was C. familiaris made a subspecies of C. lupus.

It's just not as clear-cut as humans want it to be. Nature is very messy, despite our best efforts to make it all neat and tidy.

ftfa: Dr Dougie Clarke, head of biological sciences at Huddersfield University, said: "Some pest control companies are still using the same rodenticides - Bromadiolone and Difenacoum - in areas where there are resistant rats and things need to change.

Sorry, Major, we can't shoot them anymore; it's called "murder" now.

How the fark does this logically connect to anything in this argument?

You are obviously a "macroevolution denier" so I'll just put things as simple as possible.

The earth is a whole lot older than 6 thousand years and macroevolution is microevolution + time.

Even in Darwin's time, people recognized "change over time" - Lamarckism was one of the starting points for Darwin. Ever since Darwin, we've been discovering the ways this actually happens. Evolution is a *fact* - only the mechanics have been up for debate.

It's only certain people of certain religious bent that believe the ludicrous assertion by a monk pulling numbers out of his arse that the world is 6000 years old. People who believe this are dumb.
