When Dunbar played Henry Clay last Thursday, Bauer suited up as the Bulldogs' starting quarterback - wearing jersey No. 12 - and threw two fourth-quarter touchdowns to rally his team to a 22-19 upset victory.

Going from mascot to quarterback is impressive and all, but when you're playing against one person, regardless of how good Henry is, you should win by more than a field goal.

Holy shiat! Derrick Thomas is coaching frombeyond the grave.

I would think that if he had supernatural powers he would use them to attack Shannon Sharpe.

Way to go with the combo-breaker headline, Subby.

As we gear up towards a fifth headline in sports can we expect it to be filled with questions? If it isn't filled with questions, how about platitudes? maybe something like "We're not trying to look past this week's game" could be good? Get aboard the can we get another questiony headline express and find out!

subby's headline is midleading

It would be 1 vs. 1. Paul Laurence Dunbar against (a supposedly nonsober) Henry Clay.

/Also, I smell nepotism with this greenlight.

Neat story for this kid...

But, stupid question -as I hate football in general-, I went to a 10 year homecoming for one of my old high schools at a football game a few years back. What looked odd to me was how *small* the football players were on both teams.

In this article, the guy is 5-foot-9, 145-pound... that's smaller than *me* at that age and I was in pretty good shape, but when I was in school, it was pretty standard for all the guys to be over 6'3" and about 200+ pounds on the field.

Are kids getting smaller? I know there's some stats that say we're getting shorter, and fatter, but I would have though the athletes would stay about the same.

Anyone have any ideas or is this just an anomaly?

Wow. That's pretty impressive. Hope it got him laid.

Football fans, I read something yesterday you may understand. Statistics show that states that have a large number of football fans tend to vote Republican, whereas those who have more baseball fans tend to vote Democrat. I wonder why this would be.

Republikkkans are clearly all closet homosexuals.

...Or baseball fans are concentrated in urban areas, especially in the Northeast, which tend to vote Democratic, whereas football fans are prevalent in the South and Mountain West, which tend to vote Republican.

Seriously, the lack of effort lately on Fark is just depressing. Where has all the clever partisan hackery gone?

Meanwhile, in Spokane, some kid kicked a 67-yarder to send a game into overtime and help his team win 62-55 as Mark Rypien's nephew broke the state record for passing yardage in a game.

Interesting HS football this week.

That actually makes sense, but what I read was that the even with the urban/rural demographic taken into account, baseball fans tend to vote Democrat and football fans Republican even in cities that have teams for both sports.

Regional. Football rules the south. The only baseball in the true South is the Braves. Baseball has big fan bases throughout the Midwest and Northeast.

Disappointed that the touchdown passes were not thrown while in the mascot costume. . . . .

Derrick Thomas

7 motherfarking sacks in one game

Don't listen to the old coot that "think I had 19 in one game back in 1937" because that shiat don't count.

funk, I'm sorry to hear about your friend. Chiefs fans are too few these days...

But if you are thinking the Derrick Thomas in this story is the sack-master himself, the Derrick Thomas that played for the Chiefs, you should know that he died back in 2000. He rolled his SUV in icy weather and was paralyzed, and then a few weeks later passed away from complications.
