Jazz look like a fun team again this season. I hope Big Al can take another step forward.

NBA Thread? Cool.

I'm not a basketball fan, though I've watched conference/finals in the past couple of years, and I'm a "sports fan", so I'm at least vaguely aware of players/teams/gameflow/etc.

I'm a longtime fantasy sports (hockey, football, baseball) player and enjoy it a great deal, and am willing to try new Fsports to increase my interest in the real thing, though fantasy baseball is totally lame.

Anyway, my first ever fantasy basketball draft is tonight, and not only do I have no clue what I'm doing, but, as in FF, I'm certain there are non-marquee players that are amazing at fantasy. Our league format is H2H Points; we don't win categories; snake draft.

Any pointers? I've tried doing mocks, but if you don't have a clue what you're doing, mocks are kinda pointless. I get the top 20 players or so, and I get the basic "you want a good player on a bad team so the offense runs through them" strategy, but beyond round 2 I'm hopeless. Any FBB vets out there that have some tips?

//what happened to you, Jon Cena's Fat Bottom Gals? You used to be cool.

This will be my second season.

Dont be afraid to make a ton of moves until you get a team that works.

I would try to scoop Ersan İlyasova at the middle/end of the draft. He puts up a lot of numbers.

Like, you get points for points, rebounds, assists, blocks, steals? Or it's literally only points?

/I've only ever played with categories

I just find them a gigantic pain in the ass. Oh cool, here's something ELSE I have to do every day for little to no reward. Awesome.

Kirilenko could be anything between pretty good and terrible and I don't think anyone has any idea what to expect.  He's only 31 but he spent the last year in Russia and he's aging like Bruce Jenner.

I watched the video, and thought he blocked the shot ran down and dunked the ball. What's the big deal?? I mean, that is what he is supposed to do correct?

This year I joined a baseball league with weekly lineups. I have no problem with daily baseball leagues, but I have to say this was a lot better.

I've never done fantasy basketball but I have been in a fantasy hockey league for the past couple of years. I usually just go on once or twice a week and set the lineups for the next several days. It's not so bad.

The season should start in less than 2 weeks!

I see Paul Pierce "injured" his ankle by taking a 3 point shot without being touched, so he's already in regular season form.

And then he got back on defense in time to swat another pass away.

It's hustle. Something they all should do.

But they don't.

I don't think you can pull that off quite so well in fantasy basketball, since everyone scores and games are always staggered - if you only check in once a week, then you're losing (though I suppose you can actually go through and set the rosters for each day of the week in the future, making it a one-time event)...just didn't enjoy it. Also don't enjoy fantasy football anymore.

Actually, the only reason this got any traction is because Turiaf actually hustled too (which is the reason he has a job) - a lot of guys just let the dude dunk in that play rather than going back and getting dunked on.

Yeah that's what I do: Go in once an set it for several days based on each day's schedule. Like I said it's not so bad, but to each his own.

Don't be sneaky. Choose from the top 5 highest current rated players every round. Don't reach unless really lacking a spot.

He's gonna break your heart more when he ditches Minnesota in a few years.

This.

I like Turiaf. I'm happy to see him in a Clipper's uniform. Although, the same might be said by someone that really dislikes him.
