(Indiegogo)   The soup kitchen that Paul Ryan visited uninvited has seen donor support drop because they are an apolitical organization and asked him to leave. So Fark, let's help replace the donations they have lost   (indiegogo.com) divider line 121

President of soup kitchen claims donations have fallen but he won't say by how much because "privacy". Smells like Romney's tax returns.

Right, regardless of whether it was $5 or $5000, they probably didn't need that money anyway and there's no reason I can think of to give them more. I mean, how much food could that $5 they lost buy anyway?

He is the President of a soup kitchen. In the worst case scenario, he'd have more money on hand to buy food. I don't quite see how that's like a multi-millionaire taking advantage of tax amnesty in 2009.

If I may ask, can we leave the political bashing to the thread already greened in the politics section?

Lets have this topic exclusively be about righting a wrong and discussing ways we can do that. Blame game in a thread like this will only derail and hurt the discussion.

Yeah, "Our policy is to not divulge our contributions" is the same as "Sure, every other presidential candidate has made their tax returns public, a trend started by my father, but I'm not gonna." Try to not throw out your back reaching so hard for that outrage.

Sorry, I took "bullshiat" to indicate a certain level of anger at the situation.

As to your question, maybe the organization's policies allow him to say "we need more donations" but not "here's where our donations are"... I don't know, I'm not affiliated. What I do know is that even if they have the exact same amount of money coming in today as they did yesterday, giving a little more to help some folks get hot food seems like a good cause, regardless of your political leanings. From what I understand, doing so is exactly the kind of thing Paul Ryan supports.

Just got an email from someone who said they contacted the author of the HuffPo article about linking to the campaign- Jason Cherkis wanted some confirmation of the legitimacy of the campaign, so I told this person what I could. If Mr. Cherkis contacts me we'll see if he's willing to post the link on the original article.

Thanks, that clears up a lot.

On topic, I'm planning on dropping money on this charity as soon as I can find the pants that have my wallet in them, which is actually turning into a much harder task then I had initially anticipated. But it fills my heart with joy to see how much Fark has already put into this.

No problem. Since we're not really a 501 or anything, I'm not sure he can assume I'm legit. However, if additional reassurances are necessary I'll provide what I can.

I humbly offer the following suggestion:

Let's keep the partisan flamewar over in the Politics thread, where it belongs.

If you don't feel comfortable contributing, then don't. You arguing about it on the internet seems very foolish to those who would just like to help.

Anybody skilled in website design?
Know the best way to transfer money?

Perhaps someone could reach out to them so that they could accept Paypal/credit cards/link to their bank/ etc. on their website for folks who want to donate directly.

This is totally awesome, but every charity needs to be able to accept direct donations online.

I mean, they use a PO box for donations fer chrissake.

That, among other reasons is why I set up the donation site, jasimo. Just visit the link at the top of the thread.

I have heard that they are working on getting a PayPal address set up. No idea if that is correct or not. However, I elected not to use PayPal for this funding campaign because PayPal has a history of locking accounts that get large amounts of money and then taking weeks or months to release it.

If anyone is curious about how this will work, I spoke with my financial institution and will be establishing a separate account to receive the donated funds at the end of the campaign. I'll also publish an accounting of the funds and how they were disbursed at the end of the campaign.

This charity is losing donations because of Paul Ryan's unwelcome and uninvited photo-op. The charity itself is not political.

However, if you dont feel comfortable donating to this charity please consider donating to a food bank or soup kitchen in your area. They need your support, even moreso with the holidays coming up and requests increase.

Please don't misunderstand me: I think what you've done is awesome. I even emailed the article author earlier to give him a heads-up about this.

I'm just saying that in addition to this, if someone who has knowledge of such matters could work with the charity so that, for instance, Huffpost could have put a link in their article for direct donations. An in addition to this indiegogo thing, not instead of it.

A charity designed around donating money to a charity of Joe Biden's chosing is honorable. I didn't mind that at all. I'm not donating to it, though, because I don't make charitable contributions in the name of any political person, regardless of motivation.

This is entire different. This is "let's give these people money because some politician did something." No thank you. I'll donate elsewhere.

No need for thanks. People should be assisted. I donated to The Stewpot in Dallas. I can go without TF for a month.

I did.

My main concern with things like this is that there has been an increase in people begging for donations on Fark lately. When they're involved with politics I am particularly turned off.

I'm sending my cash to a local soup kitchen because it's the only one I know off the top of my head that benefits a specific area I feel needs help.

I did wonder if you had just copy/pasted your response from that thread.

Says quite a bit about Fark right now that we have enough donation pages in a single day that we can be confused which one we are in. Including one for a professional director to make a zombie movie. No, I'm not kidding. That's really up right now.

I think soup kitchens are a great help to an area. They keep the homeless from begging for money for food.

Does anyone feel like making a better header? 220x194 is the small one, and a larger one for a banner on the top would be great. The thing we have now is just some public domain clipart because I suck at the photochop.

It should be apolitical and not mention Romney, Ryan or anything like that.
