The single biggest threat to any campaign are your own supporters and volunteers who come up with all kinds of bright ideas. This guy ought to have the book thrown at him for what he did.

just tell them that a bunch of pot smoking hippies were stealing voter registrations. that will motivate 'em to do something about it. don't worry about lying to Republicans, that's just how they communicate with one another.

Virginia does not collect party affiliation on voter registration. Both sides should be pissed about this. This shiat is contentious enough with out the specter of fraud to throw in. And the to the winner goes the spoils. Need I remind about the black panthers with bats in 2008

I called the Harrisonburg Registrars office and they sent the police who said they really didn't know what to do in a case like this because its never happened before. The police took the forms and left.

The police probably threw them in another dumpster two blocks down.

When in doubt, dont do anything, ask someone in charge.
And when you catch someone breaking the law, call the police.

So one hate group who incites violence based on race is completely different from another hate group that incites violence based on race because the uniform of one group is more immediately recognizable [citation needed].

No, the groups aren't different, the perception is different. And if we're talking about voter intimidation, the perception is everything. There's no question in anyone's mind what a KKK-clad individual holding bats is saying. You think anyone knows what the New Black Panthers uniforms look like? You think the average person even knows that the New Black Panthers exist?

On perception: I can put a stack of hate-spewing, threatening leaflets on a black person's lawn, or I can burn a cross. Both are hateful, one sends a much more obvious and immediately-recognizable message.

And, incidentally, after four years, still not a single person has reported being intimidated by those super scary black men in the leather jackets.

Look at the mess you made in this thread. Look at it. Don't make me roll up the newspaper.

Two guys in white hoods might prompt me (and most Farkers) to mock them mercilessly, but unless it was sanctioned by a party or individual politician, I doubt it would be a big deal. Just like the ZOMG BLACK PANTHER 'scare' wasn't to anyone with two brain cells to rub together.

1. I'd recognize them easily. Not sure where your sample of conveniently completely ignorant people is coming from.
2. The lack of someone reporting intimidation (who would you even report that to?) doesn't indicate that it wasn't occurring. Now before you attack me on this, I realize that it's a weak position...but that's not really the main point....

I'm primarily interested in the flippancy with which one hate group in uniform and holding batons in front of a polling place is dismissed while another hate group in uniform in the same location would be a firestorm of outrage.

My argument is less about it being a big deal and more about the flippancy with which they were dismissed that I highly doubt would be present in the case of a couple of guys with hoods.

It's not a big deal as long as long as you'd be cool with the KKK showing up as well.

2012-10-18 10:02:09 PM
As I noted in the redlit thread (and I quote me):

Hmmm. So people show up to vote, and are told they aren't registered. They insist that they are, are allowed to provisionally vote, and then the folks that Romney recruited to suppress votes immediately take down their information to challenge their vote, knowing that the form won't ever be found and the vote will be thrown out. Since they're recruiting for every precinct, this is a pretty good plan.

I thought this was about someone literally throwing registrations away.

It's fine, as long as no intimidation took place. It's legal to stand outside of a polling place, no matter how scary your beret may be.
