Phoenix87ta: Cyclometh: Working draft of the pitch text. Suggestions welcome.

Short Summary

In the wake of Paul Ryan's disastrous photo op where he faked washing pans at a soup kitchen, Tea Party and GOP supporters have been withholding donations. We believe it is unconscionable that the hundred thousand people who get meals every year should suffer because of partisan antics.

snip

I'd personally remove that part. The HuffPo article's been updated to indicate that he actually did wash some dirty pans, and it just seems needlessly...well, partisan.

I'll be donating soon as I get home from work.

Changed it up to remove references to washing pans.

Cyclometh: HMS_Blinkin: gilgigamesh: queezyweezel: WTF....I wonder if we can set up a paypal account or something similar for this guy and get some donations flowing in. Any ideas?

The whole "Give the Bird to Joe" idea, which is pretty stupid, should be re-directed to this.

Agreed. Giving Joe a car would be lulz-y, but this is important stuff. Let's re-direct that money.

Won't happen. I'm involved with that one as well and there's no way I'm going to get behind taking twelve thousand dollars already donated for a given cause and saying "Nah, changed our minds." That's why I started this one as a separate one.

I am donating to both. The charities are the real reason I support GJTB (I do like the LULZ - may the rest in peace) but it would be wrong to pull that away from the stated charities IMHO.

We've got a thread in place and hopefully it should be greenlit soon.

Fine! I owe you both dinner and drinks.

I heard there's a recent vacancy at some food tasting, supposed to be pretty good.

Bootstrap soup is delicious. Why I once read a news story where a man made enough soup for an entire village out of water and a single stone! Give a man a bowl of soup and you teach him dependence. Refuse to feed him and he can starve to death with dignity!

2012-10-18 07:32:37 PM

theteacher: This is really sad. "The Society of St. Vincent de Paul is composed of women and men who seek their personal holiness through works of charity. In this essential way, the Society differs from charitable associations or agencies whose principal objective is not the spiritual advancement of their members but the doing of good for someone else. "

Wat? What sort of charitable organization de-emphasizes the idea of helping others in favor of personal spiritual satisfaction? Aren't there like dozens of New Testament quotes against that sort of thinking?

Didn't read the whole thread but I can see already two (including this one) pages on indiegogo for this kitchen...

So, in other words, most of these teabilly farks probably call themselves "Christan". Just like the jackasses against heating assistance for the elderly, which I saw on Facebook today. These people really are scum. I hope they need these services someday and I can throw it in their face, as I advocate to help them.

2012-10-18 07:35:43 PM
PS... I contribute monthly to Media County's (in Ohio) food bank. Best payroll deduction ever.

Gimmick: In for $30. When do I get my autographed Grable's Daughter photo?

I gave $35 so I get mine first.

If this gets big enough can the goal be increased? I'll kick in more if this takes off. Bringing down a goddamn soup kitchen over politics is pretty low and I'd be more than happy to hit back against that sort of crap.

2012-10-18 07:37:13 PM

Aarontology: So can we add "Christianity" to the list of things that the GOP is against?

IMHO, the GOP has always been against what Christ taught due to their preference for Mammon.

I will donate later. I love this so very much.

2012-10-18 07:38:16 PM
I posted the donation link on my Facebook, and I'll drop a dime on the donation page when I can find my pants, which undoubtedly still has my wallet in it. Wherever it is.

I had set $50 grand as the target initially but walked it back before launching it. The percentage of the donations that go to IndieGoGo as their fee is only 4% if you make your goal, 9% if you don't. That said, donations can go over the limit. We can contribute far beyond the ten thousand dollars.

Boycotting a charity is what the founders intended.

Just when I think my outrager has been maxed out, the 'baggers pull something even more disgusting out of their rectums. Though how they manage to maneuver around their heads makes me respect their dexterity.

I donated in the name of my racist "We've got to get that ni-bong out of office!" uncle.

Charity does give one a nice, warm glow.

Bloody William: Nadie_AZ: In the wake of Rep. Paul Ryan's embarrassing soup kitchen photo-op last week, the organization that runs the facility tells The Huffington Post that donors have begun pulling their money out of the Youngstown, Ohio charity.

Ryan may have suffered a few late-night jokes, but the fallout for the soup kitchen appears to be far more bruising. Brian J. Antal, president of the Mahoning County St. Vincent De Paul Society, confirmed that donors have begun an exodus in protest over Ryan's embarrassment. The monetary losses have been big. "It appears to be a substantial amount," Antal said. "You can rest assured there has been a substantial backlash."

Team GOP trumps all.

This type of shiat hurts my soul. How can someone be so petty they'll pull money from a soup kitchen because it embarrassed a politician trying to get a photo op there?

How? These are the same people who think 47% of people are mooching scum. These are the kind of people who don't want you to have healthcare or would rather see you go hungry than give you food assistance. They have no decency. None.

Just got an email from someone who said they contacted the author of the HuffPo article about linking to the campaign- Jason Cherkis wanted some confirmation of the legitimacy of the campaign, so I told this person what I could. If Mr. Cherkis contacts me we'll see if he's willing to post the link on the original article.

scottydoesntknow: The saddest thing is the guy kicked him out because he wanted nothing to do with politics, not because he didn't like Ryan. It's all private donations, and the last thing he wanted was to alienate a certain percentage because they believed he identified with a certain party.

Well, I advocate the reverse action of this guy than I do guys who tell their employees they're fired if a certain candidate wins. That is, get out your checkbooks and make donations to this charity.

Oh FFS this is a farking Vincent DePaul Society soup kitchen (which for you non Catholics is one of those thing that we nearly ex-catholics cling to as something to be proud about that is associated with our religion)

and the WHOLE FARKING REASON he didn't want Paul Ryan ther wasn;t because he approved or disapproved of his politics but PRECISELY because he was worried about appearing to endorse a candidate or involve his charity in politics fearing it might hurt donations.

Seriously Republicans SHAME ON YOU! this is absolutely disgusting and if Mitt Romney has even the shriveled vestiges of a soul he'll open that fat checkbook of his and personally replace all the money his campaign cost this place by trespassing there for a photo op

Sooo... was this truly a sincere call for non-partisanship?
