Jubeebee: Dr Dreidel: They have been allowing them to do it, but it seems to me that there's no way this left tackle:

should reasonably be considered on the line of scrimmage.

Looks like it to me. Could be the LG is bent over a bit more, making him seem shorter or further back. Maybe the LG is actually taller than the LT (not likely, but possible).

The LT's shoulders are a full yard behind the LOS. His feet are two yards back. I don't know the exact rule, but shouldn't his shoulders at least be even with the center's feet? Having six feet of space between the LT and the RDE gives the LT a lot of room (relatively) to prepare for the rush.

Are you looking at the TE (under the arrow), or the LT (the guy to his right)? The LT is in line with the LG, RG and RT, each of whom is within the C's waist or feet (wherever the line is).

UNC_Samurai: (Yes, I know the arrow is pointing at the TE - it's not my photo)

The greatest thing about that picture is that the steelers are about to get burned because every single one of them bit.

UNC_Samurai: Dr Dreidel: UNC_Samurai: This is news? They've been letting offensive tackles get away with being a half-step back from the line of scrimmage for a decade now.

Not sure if serious, but they changed the rule to allow O-linemen to line up any way they like, so long as each lineman is within some physical space (I think one of their feet needs to be next to the next guy's? Not sure what the actual measuring line is).

Anyway, how many times did the Cowboys (IIRC) get flagged for illegal shifts (2 guys moving at once without re-setting) on Sunday vs Baltimore? If Wes Welker can keep hopping in place right up to the snap, and yet offensive players are supposed to come set before the snap, something is wrong.

All the tackle has to do is be far enough forward so that his farthest forward point (helmet) breaks the plane of the guards farthest point back (his ass). The line can look like a pyramid, but at that point you 1.) sell out that youre passing, yet 2) conceding premium a.) space and b.) speed to the pass rusher.

Dr.Knockboots: If the Pats had 1/4th the skill on defense as they have on their all world offense.. they'd be unstoppable.
HOW DAMN EVER... we cannot seem to find one god damn defensive playmaker.. the secondary has more holes than a porn convention.
Spend money, draft.. do something to give the Pats a damn defense.. we can't have that much offensive talent and not bring home more SB victories.

a first ballot HoF QB, and depending on how it all ends ..maybe the best QB to play the game..
2 stud TE's that are better than almost all other TE's and better than a lot of teams entire receiving core..
a legit deep threat WR
the best possession WR in the game
and finally some semblance of a running game

and yet we stink on ice because our defense blows goats!

ahhhhuuughhhh!

Quick note: I get your point and mostly agree, and with apologies to Brady, the best player on the Pats the past 2 years was probably Vince Wilfork. a 3-4 NT has little to no business making as many plays as he does. Prototype 3-4 NTs occupy space and blockers. Wilfork penetrates, pursues, and tacklekills people, and is on the field a lot more than any ...450 pound? guy should be.

Wilfork is amazing, but the Pats haven't really played a 3-4 in the past 2 years. Even when they have only 3 linemen in they put a linebacker on the line of scrimmage to get an outside rush. They won't send only 3 rushers unless it's 3rd and 25+.

So the jets are mad that the pats are using the same move people use while playing madden?

I wouldn't say we stink on ice(Really. They've lost 3 games by a combined 4 points.) but the lack of a consistent pass rush for almost the 6th year in a row is mind boggling.

The defense is young though so I'm holding out hope that they'll get better as the season progresses.
