Headline: "Pace: Pats' offense 'borderline illegal'"

What they're leaving out: "...But it's smart. Why not hurry a team up? I wish we would do it. For a defense, it just puts pressure on you."

Hooray for leaving out context in the name of a controversial headline!

That number includes a 94-play effort in a win vs. the Bronocs on October 7.

Hey, professor. You always write out the word "three" in this situation.

That offense can be off the field pretty quick if you play good defense. Which can place a burden on the Pats defense with no time for a breather.

2012-10-18 12:48:50 PM
It has worked three times this year, and not so much another three times.

If I were the Jets, I would complain about being the Jets.

It's WEEI. I'm pretty sure Tahhmy from Quinzeee also writes all their content.

In the Jets defense, any offense that actually gains yardage is unorthodox.

No I don't. I hate that station.

A well constructed hurry-up offense is really something to behold and causes nightmares for defensive coordinators.

A bad hurry-up offense loses 60-14 because the team's defense is desperately fighting each other for the oxygen masks in their 2 minute breaks between 9 minute drives.

Note to Sanchez & Tebow.

1. Find McCourty.
2. Throw ball his way.
3. ????
4. Touchdown.
// or at worst DPI.

Won't matter what Brady & Co. do.
Some day Hoodie will learn.

This is news? They've been letting offensive tackles get away with being a half-step back from the line of scrimmage for a decade now.

The Jets just get confused when they see a quarterback complete more than half of his passes.

Presumes the Patriots will respect the playaction like they did against Lynch. It was amazing how fast their defense flowed to it. Then they have to hold off the pressure long enough for whatever Jets WR to gain leverage on the corner, or turn the safety inside out. And then it would help if Sanchez was pinpoint accurate 50 yards in the air.

And most importantly they have to keep the Patriots off the scoreboard.

That Pats offense is ridiculous. Holding them to a series of 9 yard plays feels like an achievement.

seriously, that one game against the pats where peyton managed 2 TD drives in 2 mins was a thing of beauty.

the jets should bring back Brett Favre - the best QB in Jets history

2012-10-18 01:40:36 PM
If the Pats had 1/4th the skill on defense as they have on their all world offense.. they'd be unstoppable.
HOW DAMN EVER... we cannot seem to find one god damn defensive playmaker.. the secondary has more holes than a porn convention.
Spend money, draft.. do something to give the Pats a damn defense.. we can't have that much offensive talent and not bring home more SB victories.

a first ballot HoF QB, and depending on how it all ends ..maybe the best QB to play the game..
2 stud TE's that are better than almost all other TE's and better than a lot of teams entire receiving core..
a legit deep threat WR
the best possession WR in the game
and finally some semblance of a running game

and yet we stink on ice because our defense blows goats!

ahhhhuuughhhh!

Harv72b: The Jets just get confused when they see a quarterback complete more than half of his passes.

I lol'ed, but then I recalled that each of the last three seasons under Rex, the opposing QB completed barely over 50% of their pass attempts against the Jets, so you're actually more right than you know.

2012-10-18 01:53:06 PM
Come on man. Pace was actually praising them, not lambasting them for their offense. Borderline illegal is meant by the fact that they almost are not even set when they snap. Nothing like ignoring facts to get a green light. I wish we could out submitters.

FFS, you lost by 4 points TOTAL to teams that are a combined 13-5. That's not "stinking on ice."

UNC_Samurai: This is news? They've been letting offensive tackles get away with being a half-step back from the line of scrimmage for a decade now.

Not sure if serious, but they changed the rule to allow O-linemen to line up any way they like, so long as each lineman is within some physical space (I think one of their feet needs to be next to the next guy's? Not sure what the actual measuring line is).

Anyway, how many times did the Cowboys (IIRC) get flagged for illegal shifts (2 guys moving at once without re-setting) on Sunday vs Baltimore? If Wes Welker can keep hopping in place right up to the snap, and yet offensive players are supposed to come set before the snap, something is wrong.

You jumped on the typo, but there are bigger fish to fry here. 94 play drive? Did the officials give first downs for gaining a half-yard or something?

Man, you need to be a fan of a team that's struggled for 10 years so you can have perspective enough to enjoy the team you have. Seriously. You should *really* *REALLY* be enjoying this team, and I say that as a Seahawks fan with season tickets. That is one of the most effective offenses I've ever seen. They were pretty good in special teams, and they dictated to one of the better rushing attacks in the NFL that they were going to pass or lose. Yeah, the Seahawks won, on terms dictated to them, in their own house, by the Patriots. If you can't enjoy watching that, and what that protends for the rest of the season, I don't know what to tell you.

IAmRight: buckeyebrain: 94 play drive?

94-play game.

Although the Cowboys are working on putting together a 94 play drive. They'll have 54 false starts, 19 holding penalties, and 7 illegal shifts. They will convert 9 3rd and 30's, two 4th and 15s, and the drive will advance 99 yards "as the crow flies" but a total of 1,456 yards. It will end in a FG when Dez Bryant lets 7 consecutive TD passes bounce off his facemask.

It's funny, because Dez Bryant had a 28-point week for me.

// I scored 180 points this week (league average for a given week is 100ish)
// Rodgers and Jordy Nelson had ~85 points combined

My only issue with the NFL Films presentations of anything that happened prior to 99 is that they slow down the action to near intolerable levels. I don't think I can take that much banjo and fiddle.

Alright, I saw some FF talk in here.... 2 QB league and I have to start either Dirty Sanchez or Alex Smith. Usually default to Smith but he sucked last week and FF site recommends against him. But should I sit him for Sanchez?

Looks like it to me. Could be the LG is bent over a bit more, making him seem shorter or further back. Maybe the LG is actually taller than the LT (not likely, but possible).

The LT's shoulders are a full yard behind the LOS. His feet are two yards back. I don't know the exact rule, but shouldn't his shoulders at least be even with the center's feet? Having six feet of space between the LT and the RDE gives the LT a lot of room (relatively) to prepare for the rush.
