(Some Godless Person)   "Not once. Not twice, but THREE times." That's what the doctor said about the umbilical cord being wrapped around his neck when my second son came into this world. He's now 20 yrs old. This has nothing to do with a miracle   (godtube.com) divider line 42

Isn't it fairly common that the cord is wrapped around the newborn's neck? Isn't that why one of the first steps when delivering is to unwrap it?

True, but that couple didn't look like the "we've totally prepared for this baby" kind of couple.

but... they aren't breathing through their neck yet, and the other end of the cord's coming out too so.. not quite a hangin'

IMO, it's only a miracle if the cord unwrapped by itself.

They were on the phone with 911. One thing at a time.

My nephew not only wrapped the cord around his neck, but somehow managed to tie it in a knot.

Why did god wrap the cord around its neck in the first place? God must be one sick fark

Now, if I remember right, it's not uncommon at all. I'm not a doctor, but my BiL is one. During his Ob/Gyn rotation (college) he saw all sorts of stuff we'd consider abnormal that actually is common.

He was laughing about a lot of stuff, because (in a hospital) it's not serious at all.

Until they start breathing, oxygenated blood is exchanged through the umbilical cord. It's normally not a problem for the cord to be wrapped around, as long as it's not PINCHED.

This is nothing unusual. my son was born with the cord wrapped around his neck,

Not to mention it was the 911 operator who walked him through what to do. If this guy was Jesus, then 911 was God.

/The mom is cute though.

Soooo..... god made a guy homeless, put him in that truck stop and then had the baby come early in the back of a dirty car so that it could be saved from a relatively common condition that is resolved by relatively simple procedures?

Why didn't god just hurry them to the hospital so it could be taken care of by trained professionals? Or untie the cord himself?

God is a weird dude, huh? Maybe this is why he doesn't have time to help Sudan or all those kids getting kidnapped by sex traffickers or people who just happen to be in the wrong place at the wrong time and get into horrible accidents. Too busy thinking up unnecessarily elaborate miracles in Oklahoma.

One of my pet peeves is when people credit God for every time something works out, regardless of the fact that a whole lot of people lost loved ones for the same reason.

God saved by baby from crib death! Sorry to all those people who did lose babies to crib death, God was busy that day.

God saved me from a drunk driver! Sorry to all those people who lost loved ones to drunk drivers, God was on vacation.

The worst though was people who would say after my sister died "God had other plans for her" I always wanted to say oh, so God taked Mom's away from 3 years olds because he needs them to rake the leaves in Heaven or what??

Makes me wish religion was never invented.

So say it.

Maybe people wouldn't say such stupid things if every time they said them they were shamed and mocked.

Isn't the real problem when a cord wraps around an infant in the womb long before it has developed fully?

I'm just curious how a few minutes is going to harm an entity that isn't actually breathing yet.

I'm sure all the nights that homeless dude has spent worrying that if he falls asleep, someone's gonna douse him in gasoline and set him on fire just for a thrill is worth it, because he knows God made him go through all that horror and degradation to save this kid's life.

Well, it would be very bad if the cord itself got pinched from being wrapped over itself, or if it was wrapped around the neck tight enough to cut off the blood supply to the baby's brain. In either case, it would only take well under a minute to do permanent damage.

certainly pinching of the cord can be fatal, but if the cord is wrapped around the neck, especially more than once, it can tighten as every contraction pushes the baby downward and pulls on the cord. Nuchal cords are somewhat common, but they're not exactly harmless either.
