This reminds me of what happened to Sandra Fluke, the engaged, apparently monogamous professional woman who has a lesbian friend that requires birth control for reasons other than pregnancy that is also a WHORE and a SLUT for testifying in front of congress.

Because nothing screams SLUT and WHORE like a woman engaging in the political process.

This kind of response to people exercising freedom of speech in this way is nothing short of intimidation. I guess they're hoping to dissuade others from daring to ask questions and speak their mind in the future.

I don't know what you're talking about. Implying that most women are unable to make their own life choices and that the government should make them instead seems like a great deal of respect . . .

/Are there any Republican women that can really justify their votes? Because I don't get that.

It would be one thing if they looked at her background and found out that she was a Democrat operative or something. That would be fair game. But this in this case they just found some bullshiat in her twitter feed that they felt they could moralize about and are now slut shaming her for daring to ask a question that they felt was hostile to their candidate.

I don't know which is worse, that some people actually think this is ok or that 50% of the country stands by and lets this shiat happen.

Feminist has a very narrow meaning anymore, though. Again, it's possible to be for those things and honestly not see one's self as a capital F stereotypical libtard Feminist.

Here in Georgia, several gynecologists' offices were burned to the ground in the weeks following their testimony in front of the state legislature about contraception and healthcare.

Judging by the national attention that stuff had, I guess the gynos should have just gone to get drunk in Buckhead instead of standing around watching their careers be destroyed.

That line has me baffled. Why the vehemence in the response? I'm in my late 50s and proudly consider myself a feminist- from my teenage years. There seems to be a shift in attitude, where younger women are stepping away from declaring themselves feminist. Not sure where the disconnect happened, or why 'feminist' has become a negative label for some young women. Not all, obviously, but some.

Summoner101: Because those kindergarten teachers are real threatening. They're almost as naturally evil as Mr Rogers.

Well think about it.

Kindergarten teachers teach kids to share. They teach kids to be kind , polite and caring to all kids, not just the rich ones. That's pure socialism right there.

We need to get the core Republican principal of "I got mine, fark you." into the Kindergarten classroom.

Unsurprising, considering how badly it has been vilified by people who love lazy stereotypes and whose ideas of gender roles are straight out of 1950s sitcom.

Girl From The North Country: They will do or say anything to win. In some ways I wish the Dems would rip a page from their binder. Not this page, but a page.

Problem is that the GOP can be both the bully and victim, sometimes in the same damn sentence. They would immediately claim how rude and dirty the democrats are for doing it, and the base will soak it up.

They get away with their garbage because the gop base allows it. They believe that the gop plan is the best for the country, and the ends to that justify the means. That's why they ignore 'isolated overzealous incident staffers' when stories of shakey or murky voting situations since that will help them win.

The gop has no shame because their base doesn't have shame. They appeal to ignorant emotion, never logic.

Sass-O-Rev: Not sure where the disconnect happened, or why 'feminist' has become a negative label for some young women.

I understand why. Read boards like this long enough and you'll see there's a lot of hate generated towards feminist. Feminism is seen in these parts, wrongly in my opinion, as some monolithic ideal that seeks to repress men. It's a backlash from the people who always controlled the system now feeling less in control.

Because the "liberal" media has made it a pejorative.

Much like "liberal" and "progressive".

That's only because she likely believes that "feminism" is the caricature that the right wing has spent the last few decades creating, and not in fact the exact stuff that she believes in.

This is what happens when you allow conservatives to define terms and frame the debate. If they get you using their definitions and vocabulary, they've already won from the start. For instance, millions of Americans strongly support a more socialist economy generally, but when asked about "socialism," they will tell you it's evil and they're against it. Same thing with feminism.

This. On one hand she shouldn't be smeared for asking a legitimate debate question. On the other hand, she sounds both too stupid to understand her question, let alone an answer, and appears to have the kind of low-income, feminine job that consists of 95% women. It's not like there are male co-workers being promoted over her, or being paid more for the same work.

Daycare workers have it hard, in that their work isn't valued, they don't earn much, and they have to put up with other people's crotch-fruit without being able to exercise parental authority. I think it's the reason why it's basically a last resort for poorly educated women that can't hold down an office job. Nobody wants to be a daycare worker, and some women are desperate enough to do the work. It's like that in a lot of jobs. It's not that there's an income gap so much as many women are willing to settle for less, creating the appearance of a gap.
