Why would such a Christian country as the USA be persecuting a modern john the Baptist? The dude is living a sacred life. Isn't hermitage, or being a hierophant or whatever, one of the Roman Catholic church's most hallowed sacraments? What kind of nation would squander a desert by not supporting one-man enclaves of Christian mystics?

including the cave he spoke through when he told ABC-7 Sunday he'd been residing there for three years.

You mean, when ABC-7 saw him on the internet, being interviewed by 2 kids, and decided to attribute it to their own reporting?

Or maybe that IS their reporting crew...LOL seriously?

I like to think of them as a couple of meddling kids who interviewed him, since that's what the production values would suggest.

Can't we just leave people alone that obviously want to be left alone.

Seems like we need a Sadhu tradition, as in India. Japan, too, I believe, has ascetic, hill-dwelling homeless monks. It's been viable life path for thousands of years in most traditional cultures.

It's a shame they'll likely chase him off and get him back on the grid.

And even with his criticism of the POTUS or the POTUS wannabe... i like the cut of his jib.
Would i, should i, could i be permitted to live as i want to live.
Being a hermit has little to with being Christian. Christians are supposed to reach out. Evangelize. Try to bring others into the fold.
i don't remember anything in the Bible that they're supposed to force their beliefs on others?

/i could be mistaken.
//i seriously doubt it.
///Oh socialism.

Speaking as a non-Christian, I agree with this. Some people just can't get along, and they have to go off and do this sort of thing. I'm not judging them. We can either have them living like this, out in the open and free, or ship them off to a mental institution for the rest of their lives, destroying their lives for taxpayer expense. And a lot of these ascetics are brilliant people.

Relatively Obscure: "He needs to be taken care of," said nearby resident Elizabeth Clay who thinks the caveman should be evicted. "I don't know this man, I don't know if he could hurt anybody."

Nor do you know that about anyone. Sleep tight.

Because he's been showing up at an apartment complex completely naked. He's also been using the complex's laundry room to bath in and some people are claiming he's stealing some of their laundry as well.

Try moving to Fairbanks Alaska. Get a little cabin out in the woods and make it clear that you want to be left alone. You'll be left alone until hikers stumble upon your bleached bones.

fark it. let him be.

send a lawyer in there to get the guy to sign some kind of settlement that he lives there at his own risk.

then, include a provision, when the landowner needs to use the property, you have to go.

since the property is a decrepit ruin, it doesn't really matter what condition he leaves it in, so let him do as he pleases (so long as it does not include dumping toxic materials, etc).

finally, say as long as you don't break X rules, you have permission to stay.

permission breaks adverse possession. furthermore, wasn't this public property? adverse possession never runs against the state, so no problem with this guy usurping the land somehow.

/ and there, everyone is happy.

Haha, that's not going to happen. Not even if he wasn't stealing while naked. Best they will do for him is try to stuff him in a shelter or government housing, since they can't commit people anymore. Can't have people living for free, anywhere.

There were cavemen in New York, too

After seeing that slide show of computer "offices" a couple of days ago, I really don't think cave men are the people that need help.

This guy's caves seem to be orderly, clean and even sort of aesthetically pleasing in a street art kind of way. He is more of a homesteader than a lunatic. Other people are living in filthy and chaotic squats, connected to the world through the flimsy links of a computer, WiFi and a TotalFark account.

These people need our help and possibly serious medication. And somebody should take away their cellphones so they don't walk into street lamps while typing "It's a street lamp!"

I Googled and yes, snake comes in tins.

Rattlesnake mostly, as it is a popular treat out West where Texans and others buy it to gross out visiting relatives and friends and a few people actually like it (I hear that it is nearly as good deep-fried as cod or halibut).

I was going to link to some photos, but I thought this might be funnier:

I read that in an excited TV announcer voice.
