A former used-car salesman accused of conspiring with Iranians in an audacious murder-for-hire plot pleaded guilty Wednesday to helping plan the assassination of a Saudi diplomat at a posh Georgetown restaurant.

My uncle is a former used-car salesman from Iran, so I'm really getting a kick out of etc. etc.

Texan with dual Iranian and U.S. citizenship,

Most Iranian immigrants and even the children of Iranian immigrants have dual nationality. It's very difficult for men to renounce Iranian citizenship because they require that you serve in their military first. If you opt to serve in the Iranian military and already have American citizenship, you put your American citizenship in jeopardy by serving in a foreign military.

It therefore seems impossible for sons of one American parent and one Iranian parent (Or any other men of Iranian ancestry who became citizens of the US at birth or a young age for that matter) to apply for a commission in any of the US Armed Forces.

The assassination scheme garnered international attention because it was the first known instance of Iranian government officials reaching deep inside U.S. territory in an alleged attempt to kill a high-ranking foreign diplomat - in this case, Adel al-Jubeir, the Saudi ambassador to the United States. U.S. prosecutors, citing phone intercepts and other evidence, allege that the plan originated within an elite Iranian military unit known as the Quds Force and had high-level Iranian approval.

I was just reading this on the Corpus Christi news while trying to decide whether to go to Corpus or Katy this weekend. I guess Katy it is.
