I saw that Beltran left the game with an injured knee - did anybody see that? Is there any word on whether he can play later in the series?

Hey, I've got an idea, instead of showing the top half of the 4th inning let's interview one of the Cardinals' pitchers in the dugout. It's not like anybody wants to watch the playoff game.

Though the home run from Carpenter's welcome we still can't get past 1st. It bit us on Monday, don't let it bite us tonight.

It'd also be nice if Lohse could get through an inning without a baserunner. That DP helps, though.

Unless something ridiculous happens to him - like, even more ridiculous than him not wearing his hat like a douchebag - CC will extend the series at least a day and win like 1-0. But I doubt it will be extended more than that.

Everybody's at work, obviously, but what the hell's going on in the game? Cards are up 2-1 in the top of the 6th, with Lohse still on the mound at 104 pitches.

What's this about Beltran? How did the scoring happen? What's the weather like? I heard they were calling for rain this afternoon.

2012-10-17 05:53:22 PM
Kyle, we get it, you want the fans to be entertained. I have an idea for you, entertain us by allowing nobody to get on.
Also, that super slow-mo of the bat wobbling in the hands as contact was made was pretty cool.

Rain's coming in like 20 minutes. Scoring has been good hitting by the Giants, 2-run homerun by Carpenter for the Cards.

...And we ALMOST got a quality start this series.

1) Carlos is injured and day-to-day (as above)
2) Giants scored first on a sac single, Matt Carpenter homered to give the Cards a 2-1 lead.
3) I need to be asleep before the end of the game as I have work tomorrow so it's going to piss down.
4) Lohse's just been yanked after putting 2 on with 2 out.

Not if Jon Jay jumps into the tornado to make the catch, and lands with the ball in Wrigley Field.

That was pretty clearly a strike. A perfect pitcher's pitch, tailing back in to catch the corner after the lefty had given up on it.

I really do want another eight or so runs, though. Cards don't have good luck in close games.

So I'll be out at trivia for the start of the Yankee game and may or may not be here later. Part of me hopes the Yankees can steal one here with CC on the mound to at least avoid a sweep, but even that seems unlikely at this point. All of the Yankee starters have been excellent - CC couldn't do much better than any of them. I'll try to be in here later to most likely congratulate the cool Detroit fans.

Well, I don't like the idea of the Tigers resting for a week before the World Series if they sweep. On the other hand, it would still be pretty sweet. Go Tigers, even if you don't get it done today.

I just watched a video interview, and he was talking about his last days with Seattle and Griffey Jr. and a bunch of the Mariners talked him into doing it. He told them, "Ya know, I'm gonna get hit next time up", but he did it anyway. Ya gotta love that.

W.C.fields forever: I gotcha.

He hit four home runs in the first four games against the Cardinals. He did it first in Game 1 in St. Louis, he says, because the player's wives had such shiatty seats, he decided to rile the crowd. He was also involved in one helluva collision with the Cardinals catcher (I think he was called out, but I don't remember), so he was persona non grata in Saint Louis.

There are some things I do miss about the old one, but the new one is generally a nicer place to be. The only exception might be the upper deck seats out in right field- can't see anything that happens in RF, can't see the jumbotron. Otherwise though, it's a big upgrade. The previous Busch was starting to show its age in a lot of spots (concrete chipping, pipes leaking).

Google 360 bar. There's a bar on the roof of the Hilton with 360 degree view of the city and a spottin scope aimed at he stadium.

The sections in question are visible just inside of the foul pole out in right field. You can't tell that they're so close to the field that if you're in the back few rows you won't know if that ball hit to deep right was caught or is a HR. And you can't see the replays either. Not many seats up there, but I highly recommend against them.

And yeah, the Hilton has a bar on the roof where you can watch the game from a distance. Still, though, it's a couple blocks away- you'd be hard pressed to easily see what's going on from up there. Nowhere near those rooftop seats across the street from Wrigley.

Yeah? Well then you rock. Oh, and I thought of something good to say. Detroit has the best home uniforms in baseball. Always have.

When I lived in Saint Paul, a friend of mine was going to see the Twins-Tigers game. I gave him $20, and asked him to bring me a Tigers cap. I wanted this:

That sounds like the old Tiger Stadium, or the overhang in Ebbets Field. Players would camp themselves under a ball, and the overhang would swallow it up. Makes for intimacy, but the only way to not obstruct views is to make the sections overly steep. Like climbing a mountain.

Great game this afternoon and tonight (Cards fan).

BTW that 1987 postseason was the first I ever watched as a youngster. I was broken up over Game 7 of that World Series like my grandma just died, it was awful. What's worse is that I just assumed the Cardinals did that every year. Then they wouldn't get to another World Series for 17 years.

Between the crazy runs of 2006 and 2011, I can say it was worth the wait. :)

Looks like the rain is just now moving out of the area at around 3 AM, with another (much milder) line of showers coming through. Game should be gotten in tonight.

I'm not going to guess how old you are, but hell, since 1985, there are six teams that have won multiple titles. The Yanks have 5, nobody else has more than two. So yeah, "only five" is actually quite a bunch of bullshiat.

I'm not going to guess what part of America you're from, but It gets better. From 1980 (I was born in 1981) aside from the Yankees EIGHTEEN teams have at least one world series win. The Cards have 3 and are in a decent shot of a 4th, so by the King Kong #1 Yankee Doodle Dandy Dynasty standard they hold themselves (and most media) hold them only 5 national victories in three decades is a farking shocking stat. Especially when they've had 11-year, 12-year and 18-year waits.

Maybe the communion donations haven't been getting to Him on time, maybe they were spend on bloated contracts. Either way the poster boys of Major League Baseball as not. as farking good as they wish they were, so they should not be promoted as such, they should be ridiculed each and every year they don't win it. Case farking closed.
