Wasn't there a big A-rod announcement during a red sox series a year or two ago?

I'm surprised this didn't leak during the WS between the Tigers and cards/giants.

Why don't they just dump him on the Dodgers? The Red Sox cleared most of their terrible contracts that way, and hell, even got a couple of B prospects in return.
