I love reading this every day. I do hope I can figure out who it is, though...

Good to know that the secret to a country's economic success lies in the sensical naming of things, too

This was the first I saw this site. Reading several entries, I am left believing this isn't a real player at all. Just some tool expressing either their own feelings, or what they consider to be the feelings of the fans and assigning it to an unnamed and impossible to prove "NHL player".

Or, to make a fairly short post longer, this person is as likely to be an NHL player as HockeyyInsiderr is a hockey insider.

That would certainly be interesting. Because, honestly, if I had better snooping skills, and knew NHL rosters better, with the hints that have been dropped everywhere, I would think that I'd be close to an answer by now. Of course, I'm nowhere near close, but...

I mean, we have a height, weight, a (former?) teammate's nickname (I've found three NHLers with the last name of Jones that he could have played with; don't know if they go by Jonesy), that his mom is French Canadian, but his dad is not, that he drove from his parents' house in Canada and then took a flight from Newark to Paris, he hates Boston and isn't a fan of Briere or a small handful of others, that he doesn't play for Washington (or at least played an away game there), he's single and loves video games (or at least hockey video games).

And I've put too much thought into this, haven't I?

He's playing in Germany and just got a lower-body injury that will sideline him for a week or so. That alone ought to cut it down significantly.

Assuming any of this is true, he's not playing in Germany. He's on vacation. His injury was because he collided with a cyclist.

I'd already been skeptical of this guy, but today's update really went too far, even for the level of humorous exaggeration we've come to expect.

I thought he wasn't playing... Though I guess that could be a ruse to keep us off his trail. And honestly, if he got hurt being run over by a bike, he deserves it. It wouldn't happen if he would pay just a smidgen of attention to his surroundings (I say this as someone who has strayed into the bike path once or twice (you try fitting a dozen students together on one half of the sidewalk, lol))

I may have made similar comments about Bettman in the past... :/ Usually I just want to punch him in the face and knee him in the nuts, though.

I am enjoying watching the Eisbären, though. I'm such a dork, I even enjoy the challenge of translating from a language that has suffered much disuse in the last five years. I wish I could get over there and watch some games, but that's never going to happen on a grad student budget.

This guy is definitely an enforcer/grinder type.

Likely he played in toronto at some point, perhaps not currently as he expected people from oakville ontario to recognize him. He also mentioned playing with a solvak/czech player a few years ago who wasnt very good. Could have been Yuri Tlusty..

He also talks about rooks and vets with a slight slant towards rooks. Likely meaning hes near the middle to the top of the list in that rooks-vets totem pole.

If i had to guess it would be someone like Colton Orr

I think that there's just too much hate for specific east coast teams (and some players) for someone who has played for the 'lanche and the Blues. Unless he picked it up from his house-mate, Simmonds.

Also, he keeps referencing trying to use his fourth-grade French, so he probably hasn't used it much since then, which is another hint as to where he lives.

Y'know, I don't want to declare you winner quite yet, but I can't find anything really wrong with this suggestion. Honestly, Eager has at least one brother, his dad farms, he grew up in a sufficiently rural area, the hints we have about his playing style seem right. Of course, I could be missing something, but this is the best suggestion I've seen yet.

Not enough Toronto connection... (I'd forgotten about the sucker punch to Armstrong, he got four games for that) but the type is right. I'm still mostly thinking Colton Orr, my first thought from the first of these links... Although that scoring on everyone but Marty bit isn't him. Orr played for Boston though. And he isn't even a full time NHL player at this point.

Eager is from Ontario so maybe he grew up a Leafs fan, which could be the Toronto connection. He also mentions leaving home to play in his teens, so maybe he played in Toronto. And he played minor league hockey just outside of Totonto in Oshawa.

Eager was in the AHL in Philly in 2004-05 while Armstrong was in the AHL in Wilkes-Barre, same division, big rivals lots of history there - I also noted the references to Spezza looking funny (he does) .. Spezza was in the AHL in Binghamton in 04-05, in the division with Wilkes-Barre and Philly ..

I just don't see Orr trashing the team that first brought him up to the bigs. I don't know him well, but I would figure that for someone to trash the team with whom they made it to any major league, that there would have to be some *huge* falling out.

Ottawa, and the Sens started up when he was 8 so some time to become a member of Leaf Nation, although they sucked hard through the late 80's... also if I was 8, and there was a new team in my town... and Oshawa is far enough away for a teen (with a curfew) that a trip to T.O. would be rare.

Luthien's Tempest: And Eager played with Randy Jones (perhaps Jonesy?)

OK. For Fark I thought I wouldn't have to do this. I know that NHL players are lazy and mostly stupid, and that their best nicknames usually involve adding a "y" to a name. I know these things. But "Jonesy" isn't just any of the 813 Jones in the NHL. He is Keith Jones. That's it. Any rookie asshole who might name his Jones teammate "Jonesy" will be corrected within minutes by Joe Veteran. Which is what had me thinking this guy was an older Flyer, but now has me believing he's a fake nothing.

That's who I originally thought of with "Jonesy" as well, which is why I originally thought that either he must be older (by quite a bit at this point, Keith Jones hasn't played since I was a kid, really), or have not played with the Flyers, what with Keith Jones going into the Philly media when he retired (when my dad drove us to school in the morning, Cataldi and the morning crew were almost always what he put on, so I definitely know to whom Jonesy generally refers). I don't know how it works with nicknames maybe being allowed to be recycled once the player isn't playing anymore. I honestly don't pretend to know anything about locker room dynamics or how nicknames are born. According to Wiki, Jonesy's last year with the Flyers was in 2000-2001, and he only played 8 games that year. Eager first came up in 2005-2006 and Randy Jones came up in 2003-2004. Maybe enough time for enough guys to leave that they'd be ok with Randy becoming Jonesy, maybe not. I have no idea.

Right now we are working on the presumption that this is real, that Cheap Throat is an actual NHLer. Because working on the presumption that he is not is farking dull.

/If I remember correctly, the wikipedia list of players whose last names start with J only had 6 or 7 Joneses ;)

I don't know the specifics, since I don't follow Boston, but wiki says that Orr played one game with the big team in 2003-2004 and then 20 with Boston in 2005-2006 in addition to 15 with the Rangers. I always kinda assumed that going back and forth a bit was part life for anyone who wasn't ZOMG AMAZING! but I could be wrong. I also don't know how highly he was thought of before that, but it doesn't look to me like he spent an inordinate amount of time in the AHL. Of course, he was waived not traded, so I guess that could breed a little animosity... I just don't hear too many players knock their former teams, I guess... Maybe since this is less public than the statements directly to press?

Stop yanking my chain else next time I'm taking Keylock's side.

swahnhennessy: Luthien's Tempest: And Eager played with Randy Jones (perhaps Jonesy?)

This might be the case for Philly fans/players of Keith Jones era .. however there were episodes of "Oil Change" on the NHL Network with Ryan Jones being called "Jonesy" .. there was a player here in Binghamton back when we were affiliated with the Rangers named Brad Jones and he was a "Jonesy" too ..

Holy God, are you kidding me?

Every 'Nuck NHL'er has a nickname for a fellow player that ends in "y".

It's what 'Nucks do. That's like trying to assimilate who Cheap Throat would be in the NBA if he addressed his fellow players as "Dawg"

In general, if someone says Jonesy, I assume they mean Keith Jones, but generally, if "Jonesy" comes up, I'm talking to my dad, and we're probably talking about something stupid and/or ridiculous he did on the morning show or somesuch nonsense. I'm perfectly willing to accept that there are several "Jonesy"s in the NHL, or even that other Flyers players have gone by that nickname in the years since. Of course, Keith Jones' last year in the NHL I was also in the 6th grade, so I am much less set in my ways about the nickname as I only vaguely remember his playing days.

fatalvenom: keylock71: Luthien's Tempest: Though most guys just cannot pull of skinny jeans (and some of them still wear them).

General Rule: If one is not described as "skinny", it's probably best not to wear "skinny jeans".

WTF is wrong with you bro?!?!?

I couldn't resist... Fashion victims crack me up. Especially when their, um, body type, isn't what the designers had in mind. : )

swahnhennessy: Keylock, you cock.
