Look. I blame NASA for the Fantastic Four. Ben Grimm...anger issues on a multi-billion dollar project in space? A hot headed unserious kid and his boring sister as part of the team. And the head of the team is a scientist unable to notice that the thing he is studying is getting closer all the time.

bah... luke cage has a way better catchphrase (Sweet christmas) and his way of speaking is just inforcing negative stereotypes about orange rock creatures.

I would start a rumor that Thing is actually made out of crack rocks and we could have an entire story ark of Thing clubbing violent junkies trying to chip pieces off of him so they could smoke it... that would be the only Ben Grimm storyline I would be interested in...

and thats just bad writing. During WWH hulk is at an uncomprehendable level of anger and should therefore be at an unimaginable power level. Ben should be close to a standard or slightly angered hulk, that is the classic stalmate, though even then it should only be even for so long, as hulk will get mad that he hasnt crushed puny rock man. So a mega amped Hulk should have destroyed a baseline Ben. Thor goes toe to toe with an angry thor and holds his own. The thing is no where close to the fighting skills of thor nor does he compare in strength.

But even if we grant this, it still follows that baseline Ben is still almost at standard-Hulk levels. That doesn't jibe with the assertion that he's a bottom-tier bruiser. That alone would put him at a fairly elite rank, don't you think? If you only get your ass handed to you by Hulk and Thor, that hardly makes you a chump.

I'm not saying I'd turn my nose up at having any actual superhero's powers--yeah, even Aquaman's. I just meant that they're not usually much fun to read comics about. That's just, like, my opinion, man.

Well, Aquaman's powers are arguably magic-based, which depending on who's writing Superman, are often a workaround for his defenses.

Superman's power level has been on the downswing since his 80s reboot. Super-intelligence? Gone. Faster than light flight? Gone. Ability to fly through time? Gone. Ability to move planetary masses unassisted? Gone. Ability to survive in space without an air supply? Gone.

I'm sure there have been some adjustments since I stopped following the character a few decades ago.

Of course, the cinematic Superman, or the TV Superman can do whatever the scripts say.

It's a bit more abstract, I think. Sue isn't actually air, either, but her invisibility is reminiscent of the transparency of air. Likewise, Reed's stretchiness is reminiscent of the fluidity of water.
