I've nothing to add. I just wanted to join the fun.

Wait, wait, wait. Can't Joe Biden afford to buy his own TransAm? I mean, the guy's, like, vice president and stuff.

Oh, but maybe if Joe Biden gets re-elected, he'll look at the list of people who helped buy him a biatchin' new car and will reconsider adding those individuals to those pending an appearance before an ACA death panel. Hm. It can't hurt to cover one's bases.

Fine, I'm in for a t-shirt. But if I still end up in some sort of re-education camp or something, I'm gonna be pissed.

Let's add a chili contest. The winner to be decided by: 1) the applicant posts their recipe; 2) the recipe includes the word "Chili" and 3) Biden decides the winner.

I'm gonna laugh when this car sells at auction for less than it costs.

BarkingUnicorn: I'm gonna laugh when this car sells at auction for less than it costs.

Hm. That's a very good point, and I'm glad you brought it up. This would have forced me to reconsider my contribution, but now that I've already made it I'm forced to deal with the very real possibility of not realizing an economic gain in this investment. I think what we're going to need to do here, alongside the overall donation campaign, is organize a letter-writing effort to our congressmen and senators. What I'm proposing a Joe Biden TransAm Stablization ACT (JBTASA), which will invest public dollars into the auction effort to ensure that a price equitable to all shareholders is received. There are, literally, hundreds of investors right now, and when we start getting up into those numbers we're talking about a possible economy of scale that could prove devastating. It's one thing if I lose my $25; what if all those other people do, too? Congress must act now to ensure that the combined negative effects of this unrealized investment do not spiral us into another recession.

Unlike banks, Fark does not own enough Senators and Congresspsersons for this.

Benevolent Misanthrope: Unlike banks, Fark does not own enough Senators and Congresspsersons for this.

You know, you may be right.

I know. Let's start a donation drive to raise enough money to buy the congressmen and senators it takes to ensure that Joe Biden's donated TransAm sells for enough money at auction.

Who knows how to start one of those indigogo or whatever pages?

As it stands now the proceeds will go to 4 charities. Simple math, suppose the car sells at auction for less than $25K. No big deal. Some of us posting here can assure that will not happen. We know the risk but the charities get the reward.

What if the car sells for more. Much more. If your brave offer still stands, double your donation to laugh. Go on, you can do it. Pledge now.

Oh, that's easy! I pledge to laugh twice as hard if this car sells for more than it costs. That would be the icing on this half-baked cake.

Just think what we could do if you know, we did something worthwhile instead.
I've been busting my ass trying to get funding to expand something, but by all means, let's do some totally useless shiat.

BarkingUnicorn: I'm gonna laugh when this car sells at auction for less than it costs.

I'm thinking that after it's given to him and it becomes "Joe Biden's bird," it's value will increase quite a bit. People who wouldn't kick in $10 might be interested in owning it. I think the charities will do okay. Plus the real fun thing is making it happen, and the fact that good causes make out on it is gravy, in my opinion.

Apparently people aren't as interested in your idea as this one. It makes a statement, it honors a good man, it benefits charity, and IT'S FUNNY!

How about your idea?

OK, third idea. Another donation effort, the I've been busting my ass trying to get funding to expand something, but by all means, let's do some totally useless shiat (IBBMATTGFTESBBAMLTSTUS) to cover those americans not covered by JBTASA. We can't leave anyone behind.

I'm hoping that I can win the Trans Am for $100 in the auction. Because I really want that Trans Am now.

Donating money to four very worthy charities is useless shiat?

I usually respect your opinion, but in this case your wrong. Please read the article and watch the video. If you still don't agree with what we're doing, that's fine. If you want to donate to one or more of the charities directly, well that's fine too.

Please understand that this isn't fark doing this. This isn't being done by any political parties whatsoever. It's being done by the internet, which is why it's so damned awesome.

Update:

Tuesday, Oct. 16th, will be a day that goes down in history as the day Fark raised a veritable crap ton of money for some really awesome charities. Seriously, the community here has created a movement that has raised closed to $12k in under 5 days. There have been hundreds involved in this and tens of Farkers who have spent hours and hours spreading the message and finding contributors to our cause. Our twitter bomb campaigns have been incredibly successful with 40k new visitors to our indiegogo page in the past 24 hours. I've said this before and I will say this again:

This campaign is a success. We have raised enough money to benefit 4 awesome charities regardless if we purchase a car or not. We've had our lulz, we worked our tails off and we've achieved something special here. A group of snarky misanthropes has used their individual and unique talents to start a campaign that has gained national media attention and raised close to $12k in 5 days.

I also received confirmation from Doctors Without Borders today regarding our goal to provide them funds through this project. They are excited to work with us and we can consider them official partners in this endeavor.

Going forward:

We will continue our social media plan, which sarahdiddle is doing a fantastically awesome job. Also thanks to MustangFive for his work as well. Special thanks to those taking the time to tweet and create macros for tweeting. You all are hilarious and I want to get drunk with all of you farkers.

We may be re-designing our indiegogo pitch to be more user-friendly while maintaining its narrative reach and power.

We are also looking into more perks for our contributors and are still working on the Holy T-shirt of Fark. Hopefully that will be finalized within the next couple of weeks.

All that is left is to enjoy this magic ride and continue having all this fun that we're having. Don't forget to enjoy yourself, whether with the knowledge of helping others or for the lulz.

Cheers you magnificent bastards.

A very special note from Unfreakable:

I don't really look at this as a Democrat thing or a Republican thing or a political thing, I consider this an Internet thing. The same as when Fark helped send a crowbar and a Half-Life strategy manual to the scientist at the LHC that looked like Gordon Freeman in one of the publicity photos.

A lot of people are saying, "Hey, he can afford to buy his own car!" Of course he can. This isn't about helping Joe because he can't afford a car, it's about making a silly Internet meme become reality, and also to help some charities. If you really want to discuss politics, I'd ask that you go over to the politics tab; there are a lot of current stories there that you can discuss. This one is about having fun and doing something neat. If you don't want to join in, you don't have to--that's your choice. I'd just ask that you find a different thread that's more to your liking.

To all of you Farkers that have helped in any way, whether it was contributing with money, or time, or organizing any of this, or helping share the word on your Facebook wall or tweeting it--YOU FREAKING ROCK. Thank you for what you've done, and hopefully what you'll continue to do. This is awesome and everybody who has had a hand in helping to set this up or keep the momentum going is fantastic. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

I am willing to do another update on either Thursday or Friday for Patch. I'm already 2 of their 5 featured blog posts, so I don't want to spam them.

I think I'm going to post something about local politics on Wed so that they don't think that I'm only all about the #GiveJoeTheBird thing.

FWIW: the local editor (one of my neighbors) is very supportive, and has tweeted both of my blog posts so far from their official twitter account, and made the first one the Featured Article for part of a day.

You know, when I started on Friday my Twitter account had a history of 8 tweets in it over the course of its entire existence. And all those tweets were more or less over the same period of time, right when it was made, to support the Green Movement in Iran.

I've got 185 now. with more to come. You guys managed to get me pumped up again over something silly and fun. And, unlike the Iranian incident, this is extremely unlikely to fill my life with terror and extreme personal danger. I love you guys. This shiat is awesome.

Morning folks....

2012-10-17 07:22:01 AM
Good morning everyone!

I do want to get this out of the way before this goes green so we don't get shot down with cries of how we're not really bi-partisan/nonpartisan/just in it for the lulz with no political affiliations (also, IQ sieve!).

When we're talking about a right wing/conservative/Republican twitterbombing day, it's because we've already done a lot people who are assumed to be or confirmed liberal/Democrat/left wing. And partially it's because they're celebrities, partially because more liberal people are assumed to be weird or quirky and therefore would get a kick out of this, and partially because of my own biases (young, female, living in an extremely liberal area...for NC at least). So to over come this and in the spirit of bipartisan/nonpartisanship we're dedicating a day reaching out to the people that honestly, I probably would have completely forgot about were it not for RichieLaw and others reminding me. So it's not really a Twitterbombing of hate, it's a Twitterbombing of "Let's not assume these people will automatically write this off because of the Biden/Lulz/Inability to understand quirky humor." This movement has definitely reminded me that weird humor is definitely not a partisan thing and so our ways to get the word out shouldn't be either.

\Can't say it enough but everyone here is amazing and count me in for a DC Fark party for the giving of the Trans Am
\\Anyone around WNC can road trip with me!

beenjammin: You know, when I started on Friday my Twitter account had a history of 8 tweets in it over the course of its entire existence.

Sleepy time now!

I'm up to 220 from, well, I'm nit sure, but probably less than 25. Definitely no more than 50.
