"This is a case of bait-and-switch. Romney, in his convention speech, spoke of his plan to create "12 million new jobs," which the campaign's white paper describes as a four-year goal.

But the candidate's personal accounting for this figure in this campaign ad is based on different figures and long-range timelines stretching as long as a decade - which in two cases are based on studies that did not even evaluate Romney's economic plan. The numbers may still add up to 12 million, but they aren't the same thing - not by a long shot. "

But don't facts have a liberal bias?

2012-10-16 03:30:51 PM
When Romney spouts about his 12 million new jobs thing, Obama NEEDS to hit him with:

Moody's Analytics, in an August forecast, predicts 12 million jobs will be created by 2016, no matter who is president. And Macroeconomic Advisors in April also predicted a gain of 12.3 million jobs.

And follow that up with negatives about the Romney plan. Show that Mittens is giving EMPTY PROMISES.

If Obama doesn't show up tonight I might not even vote.

Of course, I'm in Cali which is going Obama anyway so...

So the numbers add up but the timeline doesn't. Glen woven mentions the 4 year tune period is a GOAL. Does glen know what a goal is? It may take 10 years per the study, but Romney wants to do it in shorter time. God help us all for having a candidate who wants to river achieve.

I'll wait for the 1 million manufacturing jobs Obama promised without any specifics at all.

What is Romney's definition of a job?

I can create 12 million new jobs using this trick:
Say a shift at walmart is 8 hours. 12 million people work at wal mart. If I was the owner, I would cut back everyone elses' hours by half and hire on 12 million more people to take on the rest of the hours. Bam, 12 millions "jobs"

Mitt Romney cites 3 million green jobs he will create in his ad, but the study only looked at jobs are ones created by current policy, including those created by new energy efficiency standards that Romney has promised to repeal.

He said "trickle down government does not work". He knows the trickle down label is poison, so he's trying to claim that saying government policies can lead to new hiring is a lie that liberals made up and not, you know, established short-term macroeconomics.

Then he followed it up by saying that he knows how to create jobs so vote for him.

Exactly. And what increases consumer demand? Regular people having a larger income than they need to pay for necessities: discretionary income. Spending money. People being able to afford to go buy new cars, gadgets and toys; to go see movies, dine out in restaurants. Not the super-rich piling away even more in their offshore bank accounts.

If a rich man needs a new suit, he goes and gets one suit, or maybe two or three at the most. He doesn't buy 10,000 suits. But if 10,000 regular guys need new suits and can afford them, that's 10,000 siuts being sold and 10,000 x the cost of a new suit being pumped back into the economy.

Trickle-down just doesn't happen. Period.

He did this in the first debate as well. He's trying to hang 40 years of Republican policy around Obama's neck by thinking he's just that clever and we're just that stupid.

And I wish he'd stop LYING about his time as Governor in Massachusetts. He did NOT balance the farking budget, he left two massive deficits during his last two years. He cut taxes and raised fees. He is so full of shiat, but this bragging about his governorship in Massachusetts has to stop. The only good thing he did was Romneycare and probably the only reason his Romneycare went through is because Massachusetts was 80% Democrat at the time. Lying sack of shiat liar.

It's funny how in the debate the question was about jobs, with Mitt answering first about how he's going to create jobs.
Then at the end of Obama's reply to the question (which sounded better than Romney) Romney jumps up and says "Presidents don't create jobs!".

What an ass.

2012-10-17 12:45:16 AM
And then there was the claim that he balanced the Olympics budget. Forgot to mention the billion dollar Federal grant though.

2012-10-17 12:47:37 AM
Romney/the GOP is pro-bigotry and anti-women, pro war and anti-education, pro-corporation and anti-middle class. All Romney has going for his is this "I know how to make jobs and get the economy going" message. The problem is that all he actually knows how to do is ride companies into the ground for profit and spout "tax cuts" over and over again.

So, sometimes, he's just gotta lie. It's all part of the game.

And by sometimes, I mean all the time.

Indeed! He's going to create 12 million jobs as President, which is the number of jobs that would be created even without a President. So maybe he was telling the truth, inadvertently. A miracle!

Aahhh, yes. Everything he spoke of economically for the country was trickle down economics. And at the end of the debate, he said he didn't support trickle down economics. F-ing liar.

And the fact that he lied during the first question, directed at him, regarding college grads, getting jobs and out of debt, he said that he would increase Pell Grant availability. What a piece of work.

I won't say I called this in the debate thread, but...

Fark it. I called this in the debate thread. Also, you don't claim one minute your plan creates 12 million jobs and a short time later interrupt the president screaming "government doesn't create jobs!"

Somewhat OT, but related to the election. Got an idea. Anyone up for a contest? Winner gets two months of Total Fark (paid by me). If anyone else wants to chip in, post how much you will donate. Someone might get a year of Total Fark. Or more!

The contest: post your best guess for the final OFFICIAL Electoral College votes, as in (JUST a random example):

O: 260
R: 278

We start with the "Obama's trying to appeal to the moron vote. Unfortunately, there may not be enough morons out there to elect him" thread and when it closes jump to the top one on the Politics tab. (Alternative: Drew creates a special contest thread that always sits on top

I'll volunteer to tabulate it on a spreadsheet, as in (JUST for example):

ox45tallboy 2012-10-17 01:28:09 AM O: 278 R: 260
Gosling 2012-10-17 01:09:54 AM O: 270 R: 268

and so forth.

Rules:

- Anyone wanting to contribute one or more months of Total Fark just make a post stating so. I'll notate in on the Excel spreadsheet I'll put together.

- You can revise your guess any time. Excel will find duplicates in the tabulated list and toss out the old one.

- Deadline for entries is 12 midnight of election night (Pacific Time).

- CLOSEST guess wins.

- In case of a tie with the same numbers, the Fark datestamped EARLIEST guess wins.
(Note: this could penalize you for revising your early guess at a later time.)

- In case of a tie which brackets the official Electoral College result
(i.e.: O: 270 R: 268, and O: 268 R: 270 with the actual result being O: 269 R: 269)
the prize will be split in half. Any odd month to go to the earliest time stamp.

- I'll occasionally post a list of entries and donations, in alphabetical order, and people can tell me if I missed any.

- I'll copy/paste the:
(1) final list of all entries onto one or more posts on the last (or official) thread,
(2) copy/paste the list of all Total Fark month donations, and who made them,
(3) divide up, between the winners, the Total Fark months if there is a tie.

Hey, it's something to do and I'm bored.

Thoughts? Anyone? Bueller? Anyone?

Does each right-wing troll account on Fark count as one job?

2012-10-17 02:59:36 AM

vrax: Does each right-wing troll account on Fark count as one job?

Of course not. They're independent contractors; not really employed, but just scrounging for loose change like people who sell old clothing on EBay.

I mean, if being a paid shill on Fark counted as a real job, the unemployment rate would be about 3.7% by now.
