The U.S. Supreme Court on Tuesday rejected a last-gasp appeal by Ohio Republicans and approved early voting for Ohio residents on the weekend before Election Day.

How sad. The GOP should run on their ideas and values and let the voters decide.

Early voting is awesome. I just mailed my ballot in.

This only encourages blah people to vote. Clearly, this is an outrage.

Here's my advice and it isn't biased:

Don't vote until election day. Between now and then, more information may come out about one or both of the candidates that may influence your vote. Give the candidates up until election day to get that message out. Wait until after all the debates. Wait until all of the October surprises are revealed. Do your best efforts to wait to vote on election day. If you vote early and then something happens that causes you to want to change your vote, you won't be able to.

I can't vote in the US even though I'd love to vote for Obama.

I doubt you could name/describe one realistic October surprise that would change my vote to Romney.

Ordinarily you would be correct, but in this race, Obama could be caught snorting coke off a dead baby and he'd STILL be a better candidate than Romney.

When do they start the counts for the early voting? Do they wait until election day and then start counting, or do they keep a running tally as people vote?

I'm waiting for tonight's debate before I mail my ballot in.

I wouldn't vote for Romney if he was on American Idol and he was taped to Kelly Clarkson.

Annnnnnnnnnnd there goes Romney's chances of winning Ohio.

Thanks SCOTUS

I believe they start counting on election day. If they do a running tally then they don't release the numbers until election day. Either way, you're waiting until Election day for the results.

Just remember, Ohioans, whether you vote early or on the 6th, just who it was that tried to take that right away from you and the reason they tried it. Also remember why your unemployment rate is below the national average.

Yes, because you will be better off putting your voting rights up to the whim of whichever party gets the most poll volunteers.

/illegally denied the right to vote against Michelle Bachmann TWICE
//poll worker decided the person vouching for me didn't look enough like the pic in their ID

//voting early

Voting early simply makes things easier on corrupt Republican election officials (see: OH, FL). Instead of having to massage the numbers after pushing all the results to an "off-site backup facility" for a "routine test" in the middle of election night, they can simply stuff all those early ballots down a storm drain and come out ahead -- since its Dems that overwhelmingly vote early.

2012-10-16 05:21:06 PM
Yesterday, I voted in Ohio. I didn't even show ID. The kind lady compared my signature on the request for early voting document to my signature on my registration in the computer and that was that.

I will concede this point. We are terrible drivers. I myself, nearly crashed into a vehicle pulled over to the side of the road this morning. Barely dodged it going 55. The reason it was pulled over? Because it just got into a crash a few minutes before.

Just two elections ago there were some poll lines in which voters waited more than 10 hours. In the rain. In freaking November in Ohio (so, think cold). Some voters left disappointed without being able to vote. Also Bush won by a small margin.

Then Ohio allowed early voting and that was no longer an issue. Also Obama won.

But no, you're totes right. Everyone should all vote at the same time. That won't create any problems.

And don't worry the GOP especially in Ohio will make sure there are plenty of voting machines that work especially in the inner city Blah areas. If you buy that line you do not know what happened in 2004 and 2008.

If you're going to fudge the results of an election, you must be within the margin of error to win. Too much of a variance with the exit polls (see: Ohio, 2004) and it starts to raise eyebrows. Obama won in an effective landslide in 2008, there simply weren't enough votes to convincingly cheat.

And why Republicans are fighting so hard to remove it?

The elimination of early voting strongly favors Republicans. The more people they can prevent from voting the better chance of winning their candidates have. It really is that simple.

I still remember Fox News' reaction when Florida went for Obama in 2008. I believe it was, "Uh..."

I don't know if we'll have that same "Uh..." moment, but I sure hope so.

/Hey, wasn't killing off Medicare as we know it supposed to deliver FL to the Dems?
