Before the first debate, Obama's campaign said he was going to have a conversation with the public. In a sense, that is all he did. If he is saying that he is going to do XYZ tonight, I have a tendency to take him at his word.

I am missing what the lie is. He proposed an across the board 20% tax cut, which adds up to roughly $5 trillion over 10 years.

What loopholes will he close to make up the revenue?

Spend more on Military, quit borrowing money from those communist bastages in China, and pay for it by raiding Social Security and cutting funding to Public Access and Non-Profit.

It's revenue neutral (if you tax the shiat out of the middle class by closing all their tax loopholes)!!

Romney is a giant farking bullseye. I think what hurt Obama the most in debate #1 was that he could miss such an enormous target for 90 minutes. Every other word that came out of Romney's mouth could have been ripped to pieces.

And it still doesn't say how he plans to pay for it. Anyone can promise to cut taxes by 20% for everyone. Only the truly stupid will accept it on its face when no details are given on how to pay for the loss of revenue and the plan has been assailed as mathematically impossible by every sane source.

Yep. 5 trillion dollars over ten years. No proposed solutions to fill that gap unless he's planning on cutting that much out of the budget (but he hasn't proposed anything except killing PBS, which will save a fraction of a percent, and repealing the parts of Obamacare that people don't like, which will actually cost money). Or he's going to close loopholes on...who? He says the rich. But if they're not going to get a tax cut, why is he cutting their rates? Romney's plan doesn't add up, using any rational number system. So he's either lying that he's going to cut taxes, or he's lying that the middle class won't get hit, or he honestly thinks he's going to cut half a trillion dollars per year out of the budget while increasing the military part, which makes him pretty stupid, because it's not really possible.

Individual Taxes

America's individual tax code applies relatively high marginal tax rates on a narrow tax base. Those high rates discourage work and entrepreneurship, as well as savings and investment. With 54 percent of private sector workers employed outside of corporations, individual rates also define the incentives for job-creating businesses. Lower marginal tax rates secure for all Americans the economic gains from tax reform.

Make permanent, across-the-board 20 percent cut in marginal rates
Maintain current tax rates on interest, dividends, and capital gains
Eliminate taxes for taxpayers with AGI below $200,000 on interest, dividends, and capital gains
Eliminate the Death Tax
Repeal the Alternative Minimum Tax (AMT)
Corporate Taxes

The U.S. economy's 35 percent corporate tax rate is among the highest in the industrial world, reducing the ability of our nation's businesses to compete in the global economy and to invest and create jobs at home. By limiting investment and growth, the high rate of corporate tax also hurts U.S. wages.

Cut the corporate rate to 25 percent
Strengthen and make permanent the R&D tax credit
Switch to a territorial tax system
Repeal the corporate Alternative Minimum Tax (AMT)

Nothing about closing loopholes and deductions. So you admit that you were lying, and Romney has no plan to make up the cut in $5 trillion in revenue.

You could have saved us both time and admit you had nothing right at the outset.

Oh, wait...in the .pdf that "explains" Romney's tax policy (which I did read, and which still doesn't identify a single loophole or program that will be slashed), there is a single sentence that I'd like the Mittster to parse:

In the long run, Mitt Romney will pursue a conservative overhaul of the tax
system that includes lower and flatter rates on a broader tax base.

What, pray tell, do those three words mean? In every other context that I've ever read them, it means "more people will pay taxes". So why doesn't Romney simply admit that he's going to increase the taxes of poor and middle class people? Since obviously, in his view, the rich all pay too much, the concept of "broadening" the tax base means including more people in "those paying taxes", and the right-wing talking point is that the 47% don't pay "their fair share". So just to be clear, Romney's own website admits he intends to raise taxes on poor and/or middle-class people.

My bad, I did miss that.

Having now read it, nothing has changed. It's wordier, but contains nothing helpful.

The fact is, when asked point-blank about specifics, Romney/Ryan can't answer them. Or, more likely, really, really, really don't want to.

Are you serious or kidding?
There is a huge difference between having more people have jobs and as a result pay some taxes and just saying that you are getting more tax dollars from the poor and middle class.

Lowering the tax rate by 20% is not going to result in higher taxes for a person in those income brackets.

Not all jobs lost in the 0bama economy are jobs for the poor.

Here's my Opinion on what has happened: Romney is actually Romney went full conservative when he campaigned for GOP. He double down with Ryan to consolidate and energize the true believer. He went full conservative to

However, the convention offered no bump in the national poles. But Romney is a shrewd politican

His team realized that most people do not pay attention until debates. He became moderate. I believe most Republicans are Moderate-right. So he wisely came out swinging but doing so moderately. I do believe that Romney is cunningly capitalizing on the Administrations handling of the Ambassadors death.

Obama is going to have to be decisive on this one, and win it big. If I were he, I would actually take the blame for the ambassador's death. If you pull the "Buck Stops Here" then he takes their biggest ammo away from them.

Except here is the problem: Didn't we just have 10 years of that? Did it actually improve the economy or send it crashing? Did we not have the biggest increases of spending under W Bush?

Historically speaking- in times of crisis we need government intervention in order to get the wheels going. In times of prosperity, we need to keep a reign on adding expenditures.
