.. wait a minute, I take it back. that halftime show is nothing but white people. even when they break out the token black singers for the motown section. that would be like having a rap section to the aforementioned Grunge Retrospective, but having all the hip hop heads poplocking be white.

Take one sip for "Irreplaceable"
Two sips for any other strong about how Beyonce is a strong independent woman while conveniently ignoring the fact she's married to a super-rich guy and probably hasn't had to spend her own money in years
Three sips for "Independent Women"
One shot (to the temple, with a handgun) for "Single Ladies"

AC/DC--only logical choice. Even that douchebag Paul Ryan likes them.

Honestly, having Manowar or any other legit metal band playing a super bowl halftime show would have the players so pumped up that they would all have concussions or kill each other from huge hits.

Honestly, Manowar are vastly underrated. One of the best vocalists in metal, a unique bassist, and just a talented band all around who write some amazing songs. Problem is, people see an album cover and are insecure and go "derp a half nekkid man with long hair dont want to catch teh ghey this shiat must suck lol!1111" or they think every single Manowar song is Kings of Metal or Brothers of Metal.

For every cheesy Manowar song, there are literally ten epic ones that were overlooked. I think the only reason these guys aren't insanely rich is because they put tons of money into putting on amazing live shows. Seriously, huge firework display, full choirs and orchestras to back them up, the best equipment possible. Imagine the show they could put on if they played at the Super Bowl with that kind of budget they'd be allowed.

Metal bands and real metal fans know how great and important Manowar are to the genre, it's just little insecure posers who try to bash them.

In all seriousness, though, I agree with the question: why is the Super Bowl Halftime Show almost always some crappy pop act?

AC/DC would be a perfect choice for a halftime show. AC/DC's music has been played at sporting events for decades to get the crowd pumped up. An AC/DC halftime show seems like a no-brainer.

Metallica would also be a good choice. They've got mainstream recognition, but they're also heavy and good music to get pumped up to.

Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, and Ozzy Osbourne would be some other good choices.

My guess is that they always use pop acts for the halftime show is to make the Super Bowl more appealing to female viewers.

Word is they signed Susan Boyle to do the halftime show at the Puppy Bowl.

downstairs: I'm fine with this as long as she incorporates some local flavor into the act.

Kermit Ruffins, Trombone Shorty, Clint Madigan* (that may be difficult)

*Was really hoping they'd have The New Orleans Bingo Show do the halftime act to really freak out America.

Newsletter?

Imma let you finish, but Prince had the single most badass halftime show in 2006. It absolutely floored me. I met him in person at a restaurant in the Quarter, and yes, he truly is that short. Even Darren Sproles is taller than him.

I like everything except for the recent live albums and the God of War. I didn't realize they had a new album out this year, either.

Kings of Metal, Triumph of Steel, and Louder than Hell are fantastic except for a couple of songs.

What happened with Rhino? "The Triumph of Steel" is one of the greatest drumming performances I've ever heard - at one time I thought it was probably a drum machine - but that was his one and only Manowar album. Never understood that.

IDK, but on their YouTube channel Joey DeMaio played some cuts of Donnie Hamzek playing and he was absolutely raping face.

On that note, I do love Joey DeMaio. He's like the Kanye West of metal.

Or actually, fark that, Kanye West is the Joey DeMaio of rap.

I'd add Pleasure Slave. It's one of the most hilariously misogynistic songs out there.

Kings of Metal is just awesome through and through. I can't really play Pleasure Slave with young children around, though. Or, for that matter, anyone else who might take the song seriously.

I was trying to think of a point on Kings of Metal that has just worn on me over the years, and about all I can think of is The Warrior's Prayer, but that's not really a song, so it doesn't really count (no matter how much they recycle it)

That one's great. For another slow one, Master of the Wind is good, too. Especially if you have a real CD version and good bass on your speakers. Even really high quality MP3 compression seems to squash out the low-end of that song.

"Raping Face" should be a name of a band. That makes at least some of their set Manowar covers.

You really can't go wrong with any Manowar album.

Hail to England is my personal favorite.

If you want, just pick up one of their live albums. In fact, just go see them live if you get the chance, they put on an amazing show. They also sound really good live.

That's a hell of an ending to a concert. They've transcended being kings of metal and are really gods of metal.

The live albums I've heard, I thought were all kind of "meh". They don't seem to have the intensity and power that hallmarks their studio work. Maybe I just need better sound.

Also, The Crown and The Ring .. wow. It's got farking bells in it. Not the church kind of bells, but the instrument bells. Tons of use of them. And a chorus, and an orchestra. (or at least simulations thereof) And it sounds like farking METAL.
