Vimeo, for when you want the audience to buffer, stutter, and give up halfway through your video.

Stupid question, but is there a way to capture a frame out of the video to set as my desktop background?

Careful. Someone did that with a pic of Saturn a couple of years ago and posted a screen shot. It ended badly for him...

Yes, a button that's been on your keyboard forever, called "Print Screen". Then paste into your favorite picture program to save.

You know what I just discovered last night playing with Google Earth? Set your altitude at 401km, and tilt the camera forward, then hold down the arrow key and you fly over Earth just like the ISS.

Cheap thrills.

401km is 250miles in normal talk.

I don't get the Vimeo hate. I always have problems with youtube and buffering but never on Vimeo. The video tends to be better quality and you avoid all the average bs that youtube has in its mostly fan video music video selection.

Vimeo is aces in my book.

Hopefully, this could be the start of a new, better* way of viewing all videos... 4D!

Also hopefully, brought to us by some service other than Vimeo.

*by better, I mean confusing in practice

Mawson of the Antarctic: I don't get the Vimeo hate.

It's pretty simple, people don't like the video they're watching to constantly stutter, buffer, and completely stop (generally forcing a refresh, starting the whole process over). It's like the guys at RealPlayer rebranded themselves. If you're not having those problems good for you, but it seems most people are.

Yeah, Vimeo is smoother than Youtube for me too.

While we're on this, does anyone know why Youtube has stopped buffering entire videos? Or is it just me? It's annoying I can no longer pause long videos and come back later to see them all ready.

Funny you should mention that, because that's exactly what I did with this video (buffering though vimeo).

Personally, I have absolutely NO problem with vimeo buffering/stuttering because they're higher quality than YouTube. Just pause, go about your business, and come back when the video has completed downloading into your buffer.

It's kind of interesting how the world has gone to mobile / low quality lately. It's like portability and instant gratification are more important or something. ;-)

I am familiar with that ol' button, but I didn't think it worked during a video. Guess I should have just tried it.

My problem with Vimeo is with the users and the types of videos that tend to be posted there. Keywords: art school students, michael bay effects, long dramatic title screens, quirky indie music soundtrack, unnecessarily artistic tinting and other visual styling
