Try "it's anorher bad remake of a creepy movie that they should have left alone."

I imagine it to be a trashy gorefest with over the top explicit moments and awkward acting.

So like the movie except with a bigger budget and 'IN 3D' gimmicks.

/first Evil Dead was awesome, though

I'm not some Bruce Campbell fan girl or anything but it sounds like he's really standing by this project and is excited about it. I heard that the trailer looks promising, though I haven't seen it yet, so I will be looking forward to seeing this.

Good job taking that sentence completely out of context, Subby.

Wait, wait, IN 3D? This sounds awfully close to my dream of having a Nature Trail to Hell movie

That's just pillow talk, baby.

As a rule, remakes suck, but after reading that interview I think I'm gonna hafta see this.

I just found out that Bruce was almost cast as Shooter McGavin in Happy Gilmore. I would have liked to have seen that movie!

So, basically it'll be just as awesome as the first Evil Dead?

if I am reading a book and it says this book is made out of human skin, I am not going to turn the page like that is an interesting factoid and then keep reading, I am going to throw the book as far away for me as I can and run out of that house

The whole thing could have been averted with a pair of headphones.

Evil Dead is one of my all time favorite movies. It was even made about 20 minutes from where I grew up. I've even camped beside the remains of the cabin a few times. With that said, this remake is an unnecessary stupid cash grab. Raimi has even said that Evil Dead 2 was the bigger budget remake. It's dumb and I'll avoid it until it hits redbox

Good thing this isn't a remake, then.

No Ash, (no word on chainsaw-arms) and they're in the cabin for a reason other than boning. It'd be like saying Deep Water was a remake of Jaws.

// not only is she not Ash, she's a she

Dr Dreidel: // not only is she not Ash, she's a she

FWIW, Ash is short for Ashley. Which is was in the originals.

Also, I saw the bootlegged trailer. There's definitely a chainsaw, the camera flying through the woods at high speed towards the cabin, and an angry molesting tree. Oh and an evil hand.

If it keeps the horror/comedy tone of Evil Dead 2, I look forward to it. If it's simply a big-budget re-imagining of the first Evil Dead, it will just be another generic horror movie I have no interest in.

FTFA:
"You've said that this one is not funny like the others are.
Nope.
Can you compare...
It's more like the first one. The first one was only funny because it was melodramatic dialog delivered by bad actors."

Well, I guess that kills most of the interest I had in this movie.

Trailer looked okay to me...

But I seem to be the only person who goes to movies and doesn't expect every single thing I see to be Lawrence of Arabia.

Yes, but in the originals, Ash was male. This time -*bam!*- ovaries. "Ashley" can be a man's name too. Like Leslie (and speaking of, anyone else at the Primus show in MD last night? Good times.)

Well, those are ED staples.

// hadn't seen the trailer
// assumed they wouldn't go back to the "it got in my hand, so I lopped it off with a chainsaw" silliness
// it was awesome in ED2 and AoD, but Campbell was saying the new film is decidedly more serious

to be fair, you could say the same thing about Evil Dead 2

Am I the only person that LIKES (likes, not LOVES) ED1, can't stand ED2 because it IS just a remake of the first but this time with TEH FUNNEH and LOVES AoD because it actually seemed fresh, funny, a bit scary and just damned cool?

It is really interesting to read an article and then read the comments and then pick out who didn't read the god damn article! They tend to be the idiots who declare this or that thing most authoritativly and yet are dead wrong.

Yup, real intersting. Also annoying 'cus it tends to drag the comments into the ground.

On subject, this looks like it may be worth watching. No torture porn, no retread and it's supposed to have the rape tree!

frepnog: can't stand ED2 because it IS just a remake of the first

In all fairness, they sort of had to remake the first one as they managed to lose the rights to their own movie - and couldn't just show a short recap, as with AoD.

Have the Three Stooges noises entered Public Domain as yet? Or does the Curly Joe Besser / Emil Sitka Estate still own those?

This this this a thousand times this.

Cargo Culting a flick doesn't get you lightning in a bottle. The time, the actors, the directors, everything happened that needed to happen with ED and ED2 to make them scary, funny and uniquely awesome.

Cover bands aren't the same thing as the original act. Nobody ever said, "Hey man, there's this cover band we should go see!" and was ever taken seriously; you know it's a copy, it'll be a copy, and even worse, "Well, I took the songs you dug and reimagined them, you know, for today."

Hell, even when the original director re-imagines their stuff it usually turns out crap, a la Lucas and Spielberg.

So, no. This isn't what I want to see, I think it's got fail written all over it. Perhaps it'll have more smartphones and shout-outs to Justin Bieber. It's cabin in the woods with demons. Yay.

/Can't wait for "workshed" to be uttered by Shia LeBeouf

There was a time Hollywood re-made movies in attempts to really do them justice:

Wizard of Oz. Ben-Hur. Heck, even The Thing.

Of course, those were based on books.

Now, we get remakes like Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Hitcher, and now Evil Dead.

Hollywood now only picks films that are easy targets - they'll never try to out-do Ben-Hur, but Halloween? Sure.

Yeah, same here.

I actually preferred Evil Dead II & III to the first one. It's Horror/Comedy done right (eg. Ash's possessed hand)

From the article: "The first one was only funny because it was melodramatic dialog delivered by bad actors."

I dunno... They might've been inexperienced, but I thought everybody did a great job on that first one. I also thought it was creepy as fark. One of my all-time favorite horror movies, for sure.

I might be in the minority of horror movie buffs, but honestly I think there's something special about good 70s and 80s horror. There's a certain grungy quality to it that adds to the creep factor. And that's especially true of Evil Dead. When a horror movie is too slick and CGI'ed to death it loses some of that creepy magic.

I will watch the new one, and it may be excellent.. who knows? But that first one's got that special mojo I don't think you can top.

Show me ONE THREAD where somebody wanted a remake.

You hit the nail on the head, and then hacked it to pieces. I can't speak for Sam Raimi or Bruce Campbell, but there's no fan on Earth that ever wanted this kind of remake.

There have been good movie remakes, but generally it involved going to the source material for the original movie (Carpenter's The Thing, True Grit), not simply watching a movie and hitting the same beats. If Bruce Campbell says it's good, I'm willing to give it a chance. It might even be good.

Take something that was a labor of love from people who desperately wanted to do films - and succeeded despite the odds - then have some random guy come and modernize it with a much larger budget. What does that remind me of exactly? Greedo shooting at Han Solo.

There's a reason why anyone with a soul reacts badly to things like this despite not having seen the film. It feels like you're expecting to see someone trying to ruin someone's art, crude though it may have been. Art is the only thing that makes us humans, and ruining art is farking degrading.

2012-10-18 02:34:47 AM
Also that actress in the new ED is more beautiful than any woman in the other movie, even Embeth Davidtz, who is very beautiful. Why is a girl that hot setting foot in a weird old cabin? She would be in Hollywood, trying to become the next Halle Berry.
