I made my contribution and was promised a bumper sticker and a magnet. It's two or so weeks till the election an I still don't have my bumper sticker. Campaign promises, Mr. President!

Obama should have waited until the 1st of the month to ask his supporters for more money.

C'mon.  Can you imagine anyone who needs money more?  Anyone at all?  Of course not.  Okay, maybe a Hollywood Rap Mogul.

I think I'll donate to a local charity in the name of Mitt Romney.

Yep. It's sad that elections in this country are as much auctions as elections, but that's the way it is.
Hopefully we will get some sort of campaign finance reform and it will be enough to just vote someday.

I got a call from Huckabee to donate to Todd Akin's campaign. And I live in Orlando. And am a registered Democrat.

So much for campaign "microtargeting."

At least Florida is in play every year. Can you guess the last time Oklahoma voted for a Democrat for President?! I cant remember the last time a Democrat Presidential candidate came to Oklahoma during the general election.

Obama is also spending money on campaign ads here too! Either they are planing to steal it and want to be able to say they campaigned here or Obama is just trying to waste some money.

2012-10-16 10:32:12 AM
The campaign must not be looking at Twitter, where the email is being referred to as a "shakedown." One conservative blog, Weasel Zippers, is enjoying a flood of traffic, with hundreds of readers likening the Obama-generated ID numbers to Big Brother.

"The president of the United States allots you an ID number and tells you that you haven't paid money to his campaign?" one commenter wrote. "This is so Orwellian that I am totally aghast. ... This is nothing less than thuggery."

my god, that orwellian thug has invented the database.

I got a call from Huckabee while I was at work one day. I'm a Washington lobbyist that got a call decrying the "Washington Establishment" trying to push Akin out of the race. So I smiled, and as a good Democrat, and went and told my boss, who's pretty much the embodiment of the Republican establishment here, and she said through gritted teeth "I'd kill him myself, if I could." That was a good day.

Ugh. Don't envy me for being in a swing state. It's....unpleasant.

As for the campaign effort, I think the Obama team is still employing a 50 state strategy. But definitely not as strenuously as in 2008. There's a huge emphasis on the swingers this time, without question.

As best I can tell it is permitted; I think it's usually prohibited by the employer (usually they'll have a policy that employees can't use their resources for political purposes). I don't see anything on the FEC's website about it being prohibited.

I understand we'll never the an electoral college powerhouse but sometimes I think it would be nice if they rotated the states the primaries started in. Maybe just maybe our politicians are who they are because we have given Iowa too much say in our elections.

I think that some times, and then I remember being on vacation in PA in 04. The horror, the horror

From July 24 to date, I've received 138 emails asking for $3. However, when you click the link for donations, there is no box to check for that $3 amount, only higher amounts. So fark 'em, I won't be bait-and-switched.

There is a blank box where you can entered any amount.

From what I read in the article the only people complaining are conservative bloggers and pundits. Isn't it their "job" to be offended by and critical of everything President Obama does?

The smallest donation they ask for is $3. if you haven't donated at least that amount already, odds are you are not part of the base supporters.

I am aware of that. Nonetheless, I will not donate until this is corrected. If it is, my donation will be more than three dollars. Until then, they get the same response from me that panhandlers that try to high-grade me get. Nothing.

2012-10-16 01:12:58 PM
So they assign each donor an ID so that they can track donations without handing my email address around to every one who needs to see the paperwork? Sounds like a good idea. I doubt the people complaining on conservative blogs were going to vote for Obama any way. Their concern isn't surprising.

2012-10-16 01:17:25 PM
I snail-mailed my donation yesterday cuz I don't have a slot in my computer where I can stick a 20. I can hardly wait to see how they handle THAT. Hell, I just hope it doesn't get "stolen" or embezzled -- apparently there has been a problem with that.

Since I am a democrat and my wife is a republican, we get gimme money pleas from both. Easy enough to ignore. Bad enough that the plutocrats on both sides invent money, give it to their friends and then take it someplace that they don't have to pay taxes on it--now they want my money too? Go screw, ya uppity bastards.

The worst thing is the robo calls. Nine yesterday alone, on the land line.
I will vote for anyone who promises to outlaw those useless suckers. So far nobody has.

Some computers have a button you can push and a tray opens up in the front. Then you put your money on the tray and push the button again and it closes. I don't think it takes change though--I put a bunch of quarters in mine and it started making really weird noises.

Ok will do! That's all a guy has to do to be as hilarious as you?

Where I'm from, when ordering someone to EABOD, we usually specify whether B means a bag, basket, or bushel basket(which is actually 2 b's if you look closely). I'm standing by for further orders.

Haw! Just got another one. They oughtta charge postage on emails.

2012-10-16 02:12:10 PM
This isn't new. I got one of these months ago. My reaction was, "You'll never get a dime from again because of this," and started filtering all Obama emails to spam. (I just checked, there are hundreds of emails from them in there. Sheesh.) I'm surprised this is just now getting into the media. It's a farking stupid strategy. Let's see, the President of the United States is keeping tabs on me to see I've ponied up sufficiently. Stupid. farking. Alienating. Strategy.

2012-10-16 02:14:33 PM
A number of years ago, I received a fundraising letter from the RNC. They sent it in an official-looking envelope with what looked to be a Congressional seal at the top of it. At the bottom, they requested a minimum donation of $25. Of course, they had ambitiously labeled boxes for '$50', '100', and '$250' and 'other'. The kicker at the end of letter was that even if I didn't want to contribute, they wanted me to mail the form at the bottom with an '$8 processing fee'.

I had to read through it several times before I even felt comfortable throwing it away. It wasn't really clear that it was a fundraising tool and it really looked like something from the US Government.

When I read this story, I was prepared for something similar. At least the campaign is honest about their intentions.
