How many hogsheads per fortnight is that?

markie_farkie: Needs Yackety Sax soundtrack.

Benny Hill theme.

haha i was right, they dented the left wing tip a little bit trying to get past a tree.

Fastest vehicle on the planet, slowest vehicle to park.

How would you like to tell people how the space shuttle missed your house by about three feet.

I'd love to. But I live in Nebraska.

I'm totes jelly of LA right now. Mark your calanders. This is the only time I will ever admit that.

Is it weird that this was incredibly sad to me? It's like burying a loved one.

2012-10-16 12:10:28 PM
Yep, that was cool.

2012-10-16 12:11:05 PM
I would have been totally fitting if the shuttle made it all the way to its destination and then they found out the hanger they built for it was too small.

Thank god this program was shut down. What a waste of time and money.

A better poet than I could use a funeral procession as a metaphor for this.

That's pretty cool. I'm surprised it made it there with all the hubcaps and no bullet holes in it.

I felt a little melancholy. All the amazing things Endeavour saw while flying thousands of miles per hour above the earth, and then it had to be towed 2 miles per hour on its final journey.

Should have gone to Seattle.

I do understand the sentiment, but the shuttle was a waste of time and money...

... compared to the alternatives. We could have done more missions with the same amount of money if we hadn't switched to the shuttle.

Just a head's up: they don't actually light the main engines off at the end.

2012-10-16 12:20:43 PM
I'm shocked no one jumped onto the wing when it was about six inches from that balcony.

2012-10-16 12:21:10 PM
Wow, the only thing I've seen a crew drive better than that is subbies mom. She's just as big with as many miles.

MicroE: Is it weird that this was incredibly sad to me? It's like burying a loved one.

I feel the same way.

At the same time, though, it pleases me greatly that with as little interest as the public seems to show in the space program (such as it is) these days, that there were so many people out on the streets to watch Endeavour go by.

2012-10-16 12:22:04 PM
Why didn't they slap a camera on the dorsal fin?

Shuttle had to make a stop at Randy's Donuts?

Should have gone to Wright-Patterson Air force Base and the Air Force Museum...would have been on display long before now without cutting hundreds of trees.

Well at least I got some kick ass space legos growing up as a kid in the 70's.

This is a travesty! It should have gone to Houston! We had a spot in the parking lot of Gilley's all picked out. It would have looked great next to the Whataburger!

Isn't the lyrics go something like "Yackety yack don't come back?"

Why do you hate the Space Shuttle?

2012-10-16 12:30:01 PM
That was cool. I spent some time over the weekend watching some of the live streaming. I was amazed, having only a little familiarity with L.A., that I could use Google Maps/Street view to figure out where the Endeavour was on her journey, three different times in a 40 hour period.

/not in my parents' basement, but might as well be some days.

Yeah! The museum it would be in is AT the airport it would land in. No drama!

Really? I read that after 20 minutes of measuring and adjusting they cleared it by 8 inches. Or did they hit a different tree? Didn't see any damage. Endeavour's silca tiles are more fragile than Enterprise's polyurethane skin which got damaged in New York

You're thinking of Yakety Yack, don't talk back. THat's an entirely different song. Yackety Sax doesn't have lyrics.
