Just because a sequel makes more money doesn't mean it is a better film.

The Police Academy 5 reboot was pretty good, though:

Doesn't Cracked have a list like this, and haven't we gone over it already?

Some days I feel like the 'net is (in) a Moebius.

I actually preferred Batman Begins over the Dark Knight, therefore the list is wrong and Sarah Palin is president.

JasonOfOrillia: QuillofNumenor: List fails without Aliens.

Aliens was not "better" it was equal to the original. It's a superior example of sci-fi action whereas the original was a superior example of sci-fi horror.

IlGreven: What, no Addams Family Values?

I really loved that movie, the summer camp scenes had me rolling on the floor.

Prefer Fellowship of the Ring to Two Towers simply for the small world feel Fellowship has. The entire movie feels like several exquisite D&D sessions. The other films are fantastic nonetheless, but there is something grand about Weathertop, Moria, Inn of the Prancing Pony, Rivendell, and Amon Hen in particular. Once Two Towers comes about, armies are getting involved, and this begins to lose the intimacy while gaining something else entirely, but something which is the general course for many fantasy tales; there is something about saving the world without getting the world involved which I love.

Oh man, I just watched that again the other night. It was actually pretty funny.

Also, I think I would be happy if I didn't have to hear about any more superhero movies ever again.

Teufelaffe: The list for those who are allergic to slideshows:

One's I heartily agree with:

DAWN OF THE DEAD (1978)
MAD MAX 2: THE ROAD WARRIOR (1981)
STAR TREK II: THE WRATH OF KHAN (1982)
EVIL DEAD II (1987)
TERMINATOR 2: JUDGMENT DAY (1991)
X2: X-MEN UNITED (2003)
THE DARK KNIGHT (2008)

I thought Return of The Jedi was better. The first Kill Bill movie was bad ass for it own reasons, but more happened in the second so it's a wash. I haven't seen a lot of the other movies, to be honest. And for the longest time I didn't realize there was a movie before The Road Warrior, so awesome it was. Of course, we had that on Video Disc, so I was watching it when I was 5 or 6.

2012-10-15 09:44:35 PM
Ah, another list put together by someone who doesn't think that movies really existed until Star Wars came out, even though I'm quite surpised about the Bride of Fankenstien inclusion.

Other ones of note: Godfather 2 (even though I've always thought GF1 to be superior), Goldfinger and From Russia with Love are both better than Dr. No. Oh, and Muscle Beach Party.

2012-10-15 09:48:15 PM
They left off Godfather 2? Amazing.

One other one to throw in there: Shrek 2. Some of the best pop culture gags ever.

Hellboy 2

I agree Adams Family Values was amazing.

I'm not sure T2 is better then T1, but it's still impressive and great for a sequel. Usually sequels should never be made because they turn out so blah. I liked T2.

Yup.

Come on. Kill Bill and all the LoTR movies are not sequels. Its the same story arc and were even filmed together.

Aren't the Lord of the Rings movies just one long film? One very, very, very, VERY long film?

2012-10-15 10:22:08 PM
And btw, EW editors,Taken 2 was not better than its predecessor.

2012-10-15 10:28:17 PM
T2 is far better than Terminator. It's not even close. With the exception of Empire Strikes Back, there isn't a better example of a sequel being better than the original.

2012-10-15 10:34:52 PM
Fails without godfather part 2. Evil Dead 2 was a remake more then a follow up

2012-10-15 10:35:18 PM
from wiki: A sequel (also called a follow-on or follow-up) is a narrative, documental, or other work of literature, film, theatre, or music that continues the story of, or expands upon, some earlier work.
