wantingout: bacteria doesn't grow in peanut butter. so where is the salmonella coming from? sounds like yet another BS 'foodborne illness' outbreak to drive yet another company out of business, and cause further regulation for the rest of them.

How did microbiology 101 go for you? Yes. peanut butter can host many types of bacteria. "Peanut butter is an ideal host for Salmonella, as its bacteria thrives in low-moisture, high fat environments."

I was eating a handful of peanuts when I heard that the recall had been expanded to include peanuts. That was... uncomfortable.

Fortunately my nuts have not been recalled. Yet.

Also:
/this is the song that never ends
//it just goes on and on my friends
///some people started singing it...

Those of us with those "fake" peanut allergies are laughing our arses off at the rest of you right now.

Nemnoch: swingerofbirches: We've been buying Costco's peanut butter for several years that was recalled and supposedly this recall is for products going back quite a number of years. I'd go through a jar a week (I'm vegetarian, what can I do . . .).

You go through a jar a week? I just have 2 questions for you..... are you female and do you perhaps own a dog?

/Sorry, couldn't resist. I love peanut butter too but stay too broke to go through *that* much.

Yes and no. I am male but do own a dog.

Lol. And no, I don't do that with the peanut butter (although, I'm pretty sure guys could have a similar experience--have you ever seen Road Trip?), I just get most of my calories from nut butters. I'll often have frozen blueberries, a nut butter mixed in, and soymilk as a snack. I eat frozen berries as if they're cereal sort of. It's so refreshing and makes eating large amounts of nut butter too easy.
