Please please please let one of these stories on this a-hole go green.

Yeah, one of these needs to go green.

A sociopath working in financial services, huh? Weird.

Can't say I'm giddy over this. He deserved to have his ass kicked maybe, but losing one's livelihood is horrible. If this douchebag was making a living off his Reddit activities, I'd be less sympathetic.

I have mixed feelings. On one hand, he is a reprehensible asshole who could have spent his spare time bettering himself and his family.. On the other hand, his family is paying for his poor choices.

I'm gonna go with "I don't care."

I'm really hoping these people fighting back against Internet arseholes like him becomes a trend.

It's about time they learned they cannot go after women without real-life consequences.

His family participated. His wife posted on Reddit about him, and so did his son. I have zero sympathy for this asshole, especially in light of the incredibly stupid actions of the Reddit mods to circle their wagons around him.

Can't really blame the son, that kid was bound to be damaged goods from the start. The wife is a has got to be an abuse survivor to be able to put up with that stuff and even enable it.

Freedom of speech != protection from the repercussions of free speech

I just found about about the whole thing today (I was out of town all weekend). Can't believe the reddit mods were that stupid about the whole thing. I mean, as a member of many online communities, I get the whole "protect the member" thing, but goddamn. The hypocrisy is incredible, and it's just caused reddit to lose even more credibility.

He's fully responsible for the loss of his own livelihood. He demonstrated that he knew what he was doing would jeopardize that, and he carried on anyway. So, he's kind of a shiatty family man.

In a phone conversation, Brutsch admitted to being the Reddit user named Violentacrez, who created or moderated sections dedicated to pornographic and violent images, including subreddits called r/rapebait, r/incest, r/picsofdeadkids, r/jailbait, and r/chokeabiatch.

Never been to Reddit. Now I know why.

Brutsch also posted a link to his Paypal account so that fellow Redditors could donate money to him now that he is unemployed.

Yeah, let us know how that goes.

She probably should have known when he gave her daughter (his step-daughter) oral sex and told his wife to get over it. The man is a piece-of-s that liked to make other feel bad about themselves and claim first amendment rights while hiding anonymously. At least with David Duke or some other A-hole you know who is speaking and can boycott or take other appropriate to voice your outrage.

The comments in this thread are sick. Adrian Chen is a slimy POS who wrote a libelous piece about a guy who was generally a pretty decent person, aside from being a free speech advocate. He moderated over 175 different subreddits and almost never submitted content to them himself - he just kept the spam queues clear and banned trolls.

This whole thing is disgusting and the equivocating piece of crap smearing him on the basis of Chen's personal grudge article are awful. I didn't participate in VA's kink subreddits but I've talked to him and I've read hundreds of his comments. He and his wife don't deserve any of this, and Gawker is a hypocritical bunch of cockbags who have no qualms about posting their own upskirt pics and nude celeb leaks.

I'm ashamed of you, FARK. You've been suckered by a one-sided Gawker gambit for pageviews and retaliation by Adrian Chen for the pummeling he got when he got caught faking having cancer on reddit.

I tend to agree. Being a troll and a douchebag online shouldn't necessarily filter into real life. Did he out anyone else? Did he cause anyone else to lose their livelihood? Did he bully someone into hurting themselves or anyone else? If the answers are no, then he didn't deserve it either.

I'm not a fan of Reddit...it looks and acts like a slightly more mature version of 4chan.

We don't know if he hurt anyone else. Taking lewd pictures of women without them knowing? Posting jailbait jackoff material? Have you asked all those women how they feel?

One of the greatest strengths of the internet is also one of its biggest weaknesses. Anonymous screen names can lead to really crappy behavior and piss all over otherwise good communities. Sure we can all hide behind the 1st amendment, but if this guy had a public forum to express that same 1st amendment right where he could act the way he does and everyone knew it, how long do you think he would act that way? Guess we will find out.

You guys are gonna make fun, but I've been on Fark for awhile (maybe too long?) and hasn't even heard of reddit - still haven't even been to the site.

Is this like someone from Gawker exposing a Fark troll? Why would anyone care this much to do this? Is this guy that big of a deal? Is Reddit that big of a deal?

Obviously for his job to even find out about it I guess so.

Is Reddit that big of a deal?
Nope. It has a very crappy layout and is just a stupid waste of electrons

2012-10-15 10:23:22 PM
What concerns me is any of idiotic stuff we might share on social web sites, our employers would not necessarily be happy about. Sometimes, it is the extreme situations which define our more mundane rights and expectations.

For example, the legal system requires a vigorous defense for even the most vile individuals and behavior. However, this protects each and everyone of us from more egregious abuses in the legal system.

So, I dont necessarily like this guy be outed by the vigilantes at Gawker. Their action has consequences.

2012-10-15 10:25:15 PM
So what exactly did this dude do? I see the references to the "subreddits", and I see someone here claiming he was just a moderator for those forums and not posting shiat himself. I don't go to Reddit, never been, Fark is all the internet forum I can stomach, but if this dude was just moderating some questionable forums I'm not sure that qualifies as deserving of losing your job.

Being a general dickbag on the internet doesn't really deserve unemployment either really. Greater internet farkwad theory and all that. And let's not pretend we're all pure as the driven snow and jhave never posted something to get people riled up. I sure don't think you deserve to lose your job over run of the mill trolling the sports or politics tabs.

Now, if he was was contributing to "deadkidspics" and "rapenait" forums with his own material, yeah, call him out, legal repercussions whatever. But moderating a forum where others do questionable things? Does that mean Drew is in trouble the next time some troll steps over the line on Fark?

HOW NOT TO LOSE YOUR JOB AFTER BEING OUTED AS AN INTERNET TROLL

Step 1. Don't be an Internet troll.

I mean, I feel for the guy's financial situation, and that's some rather disproportionate punishment he's facing, but... he demonstrated that he knew what was going to happen if he got outed, and he kept going. By continuing to troll, he accepted the risk.

This is why I for one try not to put myself in that kind of compromising position. There's quite a bit of stuff out there under my real name. I've heard quite enough stories of people being fired for stuff they wrote on the Internet. I would prefer not to needlessly add myself to that list.

WTF is that shiat?

He was the founder of the jailbait subreddit (shut down after Anderson Cooper's episode on it). He lamented that it was really hard to determine the age of the sexy kid pics that were posted...because he needed to pull all the ones featuring subjects over 18.

Seriously had never even heard of it until recently. I'm not the savviest guy anymore though.

Just did a google search and came across this though: Link

Some of that shiat is downright incredible.

But has this ever happened before - where the identity of someone on the Internet actually makes news. Did this guy really rile that many people up?

I read the interview with the guy, and while I had never heard of him before that (only recently got into reddit, and even then only particular subreddits), all the stuff he has done makes him seem like the worst kind of troll, the one who does stuff for laughs and has zero remorse.

If you accept an interview by someone where the contents of the interview out you (the person) as said notorious troll, and include insane stuff like how you got a BJ from your daughter, then you had damn well better accept the consequences.

This guy will be lucky if losing his job is the worst thing that comes out of this.

This is a guy who should have thought more carefully about his actions. A worthless manchild bully who is finally getting what's coming to him. It's a pity that his wife is being caught in the crossfire -I can sympathize, having married someone with a disability myself- but the way he's holding her up as a shield to hide from the consequences of his actions is pathetic.
