Oh, "waitress moms." Is this the crucial made-up demographic/lazy reporter shorthand for 2012?

Among all registered voters in the survey, Obama leads by nine points among women and by two points overall, 49%-47%.

Um, okay?

Could someone please give me a couple of reasons why a woman would vote for Romney rather than Obama? I understand that religious women often vote against their own interests, and the few super-rich women (or wives of billionaires, etc.) would have cause to vote for Romney as well. But I mean your typical working woman who isn't beholden to religious dogma. Solidly middle-class, maybe with a couple of kids. Maybe married, maybe not. What actual policies has Mitt Romney identified, that will be a part of his administration, that will actually be better for women's lives, economic, physical, sexual, etc.? I'm actually interested, because as a dude looking at the two choices, I can't envision a single reason why Romney's America would be better for American women.

I was wondering why the local GOP shill newspaper columnist (she calls herself an Independent after being a lifelong Democrat, of course) suddenly felt the need to tell us she "stopped at a local diner for lunch and overheard the four waitresses talking about Biden vs. Ryan and how it convinced all four of them to support Romney now."

Clearly the week's talking points have been distributed to the "liberal media"

I am told that every decision you make during a day makes subsequent decisions more difficult. So Romney is taking away some choices for them to make their life easier.

Because there is a certain group of people who think unconsciously that Rmoney is a "real man" or something.

No. They vote for the party. That's it. They vote GOP no matter what. It is obvious and nothing short of Fox News and the GOP flipping sides will really change that. Thankfully demographics are going to encourage said change.

Sure. They care about employment and the economy.

The 0bama economy really hurt that demographic as they lost jobs at a disproportionate rate.

I find it interesting how the ultra religious are voting. Having grown up in a heavily religious part of town and thanks to social media, many of my "friends" are quite fanatical. Any other year they would be calling Mormonism an abomination or a cult (hell, a lot of them think the same with Catholicism). And they wouldn't hesitate to tell you that God comes first in everything including politics. Maybe this conflict is one of the reasons the nutballery has been ramped up to 11.

/Actually I don't find it interesting or even surprising in the slightest...

It's the alpha male vote. This voting block of generally older American women want to be nailed by a real man for the same reason they enjoy reading Fifty Shades of Grey. They watched the debate to see who out-alphas who, and in the last debate Romney acted all alpha monkey by flinging his poo at everyone.

This is mostly why the debate changed voters - impressionable women with unsatisfied sex lives.

Of course just like any Discovery Channel video, the fight isn't over and Obama's sharpening his horns, so expect some changes in the next two debates.

MSNBC: "Town Hall format may favor Romney in Tuesday debate" on their front page right now. Lowering expectations or setting up for a Romney "win"?

Maybe some of them are upset at one side tweeting stuff like "vote like your lady parts depend on it" reducing women to vaginas instead of people. Or maybe, just maybe no group is as homogeneous as pols and polls think. Aside from the Aftican American voting block that is.

This.

And, as 538 and many other polling analysts have pointed out - simply averaging an aggregate of multiple state polls is bad math, and even worse reporting. It does not work. Period.

Yeah the fact they had to "combine" 12 states together instead of doing each state by themselves tells you everything about this poll.

"Waitress Moms" are going to get hit hard. They are a bit more likely to be in that 47% that pays no net income taxes, or maybe not much.

1. Romney's tax plan will cut 20% across the board.
2. The only way to cut 20% is to slash deductions.
3. Romney won't tell us what deductions he'll slash.
4. Romney railed against the "47%"
5. The main reason some of the 47% don't pay taxes is deductions- for kids, mortgages, standard deduction, EITC
5. Republicans kept talking about everyone having "some skin in the game."

That's my guess: the big secret plan is to slash those deductions and credits that reduce the tax burden on folks like these so-called waitress moms. They are going to get hit, and hard.

2012-10-16 12:04:41 AM
Right, so any woman who would vote for Romney is obviously too dumb to make a decision for herself, but it's Republicans who are anti-woman.

2012-10-16 12:06:14 AM
Maybe the fact that she's had to settle for waitressing instead of data entry or lab technician because her unemployment benefits ran out two years ago and they can't afford to stay at home with their kids although her husband also works in a dead end grocery bagging job that he had to settle for after getting laid off from his software development job is the reason they are looking for someone new at the helm.

Nah, numbers are up, right?

I have a single waitress-mom from Colorado Springs on my Facebook supporting Romney. She just popped out a bastard fetus on Medicaid, too. Oh and she also had sex with a mechanic just to get her car fixed for free, and bragged to me about it.

the deficit and debt issues that favor Romney

Clearly indicating that the number one problem in the USA is education.

Hint to retard GOP voters: cutting huge amounts of revenue from the budget and massively increasing military spending does not reduce the deficit.

The Path To Prosperity for modern executives:
1. Lobby heavily to defund public education for a generation
2. Tell the uneducated that it's the Democrats' fault
3. Profit when the uneducated vote Republican

/that one, sadly, does work

Sound analysis. The debates in particular are a distillation of chimp behavior. And fair's fair. Rmoney flung the most poo, so he gets to mate with the choice females now. Or be president. Whatever.

So they took a few states where Romney is ahead overall, combined them with states where Obama is ahead overall, and suddenly it's a tie overall? The electoral college doesn't work that way! Romney can win 7 of these states with 100% of the vote, and Obama could win the remaining 5 by only 1% and Obama would still win the election. Combining their numbers is pointless.

Doesn't matter. If Romney were to step into the Oval Office as President, in that exact moment Reagan would prove that deficits don't matter all over again.

They should be mocked. Like everyone that votes Republican.

The Republican party, and the conservative philosophy in general, is standing in the way of the continued advancement of civilization. It's not "opposing viewpoints". It's "good vs. bad", or at least "bad vs. evil".
