your ad had to be the most disgusting ad I have ever read, really taking donations so you can finish a kitchen so you south of the borders can get ahead

I believe the phrase you're looking for is "chili chokin' pepper bellies."

Bogenschutz says he plans on apologizing to the Mendozas personally and for the Mendozas that's enough.

Mendoza said, "I don't want to cause any long term damage to his family just as I didn't want his comments to cause any long term damage to my family via my business."

I wonder if I would be that big a person.

I'd say threatening to use your government connections against them is the bad part of this, not doing it from your government email address.

People make the "send personal email from work account" mistake so often that it's best to just not care about it. The dude's words wouldn't be any less hurtful if he had sent it from a gmail address.

True, the abuse of power angle is the most damning. But I don't think we should just not care about misuse of resources either. My company takes that very seriously. And in this case, it's misuse of government resources. Regardless of the content of the email.

I am just astounded the guy still has his job. I mean, we're in a recession, unemployment is up and Salt Lake County keeps a farking idiot like this who, judging by the lack of coherence in his email, is incapable of using it properly even when he isn't making threats and hurling racial slurs. I didn't see anything particularly racist there. Perhaps a bit xenophobic, but not necessarily racist.

I think the fact that he sent it from his government email lends credence to his threat to use his government connections.

If I say to you 'I'm going to get my friend the Mayor to shut you down,' well I'm just an anonymous Farker spouting off on a message board. If I send that same message from my City Hall account, it carries more weight.

Well, according to the county assessor (this guy's boss), Salt Lake City must have the most racist, corrup government anywhere:

"This is an opportunity for education not only to the community but for Jedd and I'm sure there's none of us who are immune to making some statements. As I'm watching the national debate and campaign, we would not have anybody in government right now."

Bogenschutz says he wrote the email in an impulse. He was upset because he didn't think the Mendoza's finishing their kitchen should have been a charitable cause.

Thanks for that "King of determining what are charitable causes".

It was on Kickstarter.... by his logic, the entire site should be shut down. If their Kickstarter thing was like any other things I've seen on their, they probably gave you some discount or GC for food from the place if you made certain donation amounts. So, wasn't probably even totally just "give me money".

Well yeah, provided you know how to inspect the email headers well enough to verify that it wasn't forged. If you suspect the guy is lying about his profession, you should also suspect that he's lying about his email address.
If you've done enough work to verify that a guy named Jedd Bogenshutz sent the email, a quick google of his name will usually tell you that he works for your local government, without much added effort.

I think his gripe was that they spammed a link to the Kickstarter project on a charity forum, not that they put it on Kickstarter to begin with.
I agree with him on that point. When you fund a Kickstarter project, you're effectively just preordering their product. So, advertisements to "donate" via Kickstarter shouldn't be treated any differently than an advertisement to "purchase" through some other means.

It's bullshiat for this man to apologize for speaking his mind. He wrote what he felt on the internet. He should be man enough to stand behind it.

In america we still have the ability to, for the most part, speak our minds. You may not agree with him. You may feel he or his words is racist, bigoted, whatever. You are entitled to your opinion just as he is entitled to his opinion.

But to stand up and apologize because you are getting called out for it is bullshiat. Say what you mean, mean what you say, and let the chips fall where they may. Be an adult and take responsibility.

The threat of abusing a position of authority, or government connections, is way bad. He should be fired for that alone. But I'm definitely not buying the "racism" guiltgasm.

Saying someone is from south of the border is absolutely no different than calling someone a "northerner" or a "southerner", which we do all the time.

Um, nope.

You're helping funding a project. That you receive a product or anything from it, it's up to the creators and the terms they specify.

I live in Scottsdale so I know it all too well. Anywhere west of downtown, especially in the Van Buren and Buckeye areas looks like a third world country. You can drive into a neighborhood and immediately tell what sort of people live there.

Like my photo comparison was pointing out though, you have to realize that mexican "culture" and civilization are about 1,000 years or more behind Europeans and Asians. My family has had access to indoor plumbing since about 800 B.C., wheres if you ask a random mexican, I'll just about guarantee their grandparents were born in a tin shack with a dirt floor.

I get many lulz from asking mexicans where they went to college.
