You know what? That's not a bad list.

Probably should have been a spot for Neo going all metallic in The Matrix. Whatever.

Agreed, though I'd add #12, just because it's Bruce Farking Campbell.

I didn't find that scene from Wanderlust to be funny or entertaining in the slightest. I couldn't wait for it to be over.

I wonder why. I found it hilarious. Watched it again right then and there after the first time I saw it, have watched it several times online since then. Did it make you uncomfortable or something?

Maybe it's the way you took it. You gonna take it? You gonna take that dick? You gonna take that dick-a? He's gonna get it it all up in your vag. In your vag, with his dee-yuck!

I'm a fan of Paul Rudd, so I thought it was great.

Nope, just wasn't anything funny about it. Although later when he's going to have sex with the ugly chick and she starts doing the same thing, that was funny.

Missing the scene from T2 when they reset arnolds chip. Not sure if it was only directors cut extras or what.

I always liked the scene in Dangerous Liaisons when Glenn Close smears lipstick on her pale, powdered face while staring at herself in the mirror.

So I remember reading somewhere that often cinematographers refer to many mirror shots as "Venus Shots" based "Venus At Her Mirror" ((here).

Since the viewer can see Venus's face in the mirror, she can't see herself. She'd be seeing us! So in movies when the actor is looking directly at us, he's seeing the camera and not his reflection.

Please tell me someone else has heard of this and can find a reference or have I gone insane?

/Wonder if it was in a Bathroom Reader?

That one was especially slick because it was shot not with a real mirror or special effects, but a rectangular hole in the set wall behind which sat Linda Hamilton's twin sister, mirroring her actions.

Yeah, that was the stupidest part of the whole movie. Pointlessly, completely unfunny.

Beth Midler in Big Business. Obviously an homage to Duck Soup, but well done and I remember getting a good laugh out of it when I saw that movie in the theater.

2012-10-16 11:37:19 AM
The Duck Soup scene is the best by far, especially considering how many times it's been imitated over the years.

This list is good because it managed to leave out most of the stupid "body switch" comedies that are so idiotic. I mean, a body swap can be done correctly and not suck, but the big reveal where somebody goes to bed looking like Anna Faris and then discovers she's Rob Schneider when she walks into the bathroom is just so lazy.

One they left out that I might be remembering through rose-tinted glasses is Jim Carrey in the court house bathroom in Liar, Liar. Yeah, it's mostly him flailing around like an idiot, but I seem to remember him trying to psych himself up in front of the mirror before beginning the ass whooping.

As much as everyone apparently hated Southland Tales, the scene where Seann William Scott's Ronald Taverner notices a delay in his reflection is slightly eerie. It's ruined by the dialogue, but the mirror scene itself was well done, building to the moment when he points a gun at his reflection, then laughs and lowers his weapon, only to find his reflection still aiming at him... then BANG.
