There might be a douchebag trifecta in play but there is always a douchbag trifecta in play.

Sometimes I wish we still used Hammurabi's code.

The 2 assholes in the article are (hopefully so to be ex) law students, so it only would be appropiate

Two points: First, "choking your chicken" doesn't actually involve a chicken, and even if it did, it would be an actual chicken.....and second, if you rip your "chicken's head off while choking" it, you're doing it wrong.

They're 24, so that's either 2 or 3 years of law school tuition down the train. Hammurabi's nice for affect but he's got nothing on the reach of a US of A debt collector.

Well, they DO go to Berkeley where John "The president could order the CIA to crush the testicles of suspect's child in front of him and it wouldn't legally be torture" Yoo is a law professor, so maybe he's attracting groupies.

In my opinion however, this should be charged as a case of murder, Murder most Fowl

2012-10-15 11:35:42 AM
What an absolutely hideous article. Since the decision was obviously made to use general images rather than ones that were specific to this event, then why the hell did they decide to use horrible VHS-quality video stills with station logos in the corners? Seriously, I did a GIS for "helmeted guineafowl" and it's almost impossible to find a pic that's WORSE than the one they used in the article.

The real problem here is that they destroyed property belonging to and created bad publicity for a large corporation.

The Flamingo's food service areas have to have pest controls in place to kill mice, rats and maybe even pigeons.

That's just sick. Those bastards deserve a stiff punishment. Bonus that their future as lawyers is history.
You know, I like the Flamingo outdoor area. The flaminos and other birds just walking around.
Glad these guys were caught, but I'm surprised more birds haven't been harmed by drunk idiots.
The birds will just walk up to you. Some you can even feed.

Let's not go overboard here. They basically killed a chicken. You can get the carcasses of these things in the supermarket. This really shouldn't be a felony.

This is the country where you can kill your ex-wife and a waiter and get away with it. No one cares that they killed a chicken.

They destroyed property belonging to a large corporation and they created bad publicity for a large corporation.

Some state legislators might miss a lunch or a round of golf because of this.

I doubt it will be that bad.

I can see this from two sides.

The bird they killed was essentially a chicken, but it wasn't their chicken, nor was it killed with the intention of being eaten.

They could have killed it because they got carried away with their drunken antics, or they could have killed it because they were sociopaths.

How drunk does someone have to be to go into an animal exhibit, steal one of the animals, kill it and play with the mutilated body?

I'm sitting here composing a Picard WTF gif about it.

It's a felony because here in NV there have been some notorious cases of animal mutilation that couldn't be prosecuted since they amounted to not much more than a traffic ticket. "Cooney's law" was passed last year to bring animal torture up to a felony; it was conceived after some guy killed a beagle he "adopted" from a shelter by slicing and eventually disemboweling her with a box cutter. (It was just a misdemeanor at the time). He was sentenced to time already served and released when his trial came around. People got mad and decided that this behavior is in the Jeffrey Dahmer wanna-be category, and now treat it as such.

It strikes me that the fact that they were seen on the security camera laughing while tossing the headless corpse around would push this a little beyond drunken antics. Rationalize it as "essentially a chicken" all you want, but the fact of the matter is that, according to the security footage and just plain reasoning (why would one want to kill an exotic bird in a habitat at a casino in Vegas? Did it call your mother a whore? Did it promise a beej for $50 then run off with the money?), they killed a living creature for the lulz. They had to make an effort to get into the habitat, get something to cut off the head (or worse, just pulled it off with their bare hands), then they tossed the bleeding body of the thing around like it was a Nerf football, all the while laughing like it was just the funniest prank ever. They didn't kill it to eat it, they killed it because they obviously thought it would be funny. I'd say that pretty much rules out anything other than they are sociopaths.

misunderstood some hooker telling them to F off and choke their own helmeted guineafowl, is my guess

Well, that is pretty steep for a beej from a chicken... even in Vegas.

I loved the guineafowl when I stayed at the Flamigo a few years ago, sad to hear about one getting killed like this. The white one was super friendly and hung out with my group on our last day taking turns laying on our shoes and making funny noises at us. Poor little bird is missing their friend now :(

Amazing, I get to watch Fark talk out of both sides of its mouth. On the one hand these guys should be treated with kid's gloves because they only basically killed a chicken, even if it was someone's property they destroyed and they didn't seem remorseful at the time of the deed.

On the other hand Michael Vick can't get enough punishment for the dogs he destroyed, you never treat any animal the way Vick did.

Personally, I think these two ex-law students should have known better than Vick that you don't go around killing animals, and their punishment should be harsher. They went on private property and killed someone's animal.

This world has no use for an ostensibly grown adult who kills and/or tortures an animal for fun. Give these losers the guillotine.

It doesn't sound like they tortured the animal at all. Rather they humanly beheaded it and then got their sick jollies. But I guess it would be unamerican to only charge them with what crimes they may have actually committed instead of every possible charge on the books.
