How many times is this story going to be told?

It's as bad as the one where if Neil Armstrong died we were going to blame it on Cuba and invade.

Survival kit contents check. In them you'll find: one forty-five caliber automatic; two boxes of ammunition; four days' concentrated emergency rations; one drug issue containing antibiotics, morphine, vitamin pills, pep pills, sleeping pills, tranquilizer pills; one miniature combination Russian phrase book and Bible; one hundred dollars in rubles; one hundred dollars in gold; nine packs of chewing gum; one issue of prophylactics; three lipsticks; three pair of nylon stockings. Shoot, a fella' could have a pretty good weekend in Vegas with all that stuff.

Kennedy also revived a sluggish economy by lowering taxes on individuals and corporations.

Democrats now differentiate themselves from Republicans by pushing for higher taxes. What a difference a half century makes.

Kennedy didn't save the world from nuclear war -- he was all ready to go if the Russian merchant ships didn't turn around. If anyone should get the credit, it should be Khrushchev. He ordered the ships stopped and thereby stepped back from all out nuclear war. And i might add, at the cost of his future political career.

2012-10-15 04:22:24 AM
The president's group of advisers would later be known as the "Ex Comm,"

That's the problem with the Masons and their secret order of world controllers, they love to leave little hints pointing to the truth. So we can rationally and logically deduce that this "Ex-Comm" was no more than the Extra-terrestrial combat unit, X-Com. It wasn't Russians in Cuba, it was aliens. We should have nuked them while we had the chance, now they control Haiti, Lichtenstein, Bhutan and a small village outside of Bruxelles. It's too late, all because JFK wanted to get back to boffing some skank.

You should be aware of the reason Khrushchev thought he could pull off this stunt to begin with. JFK and RFK would stick it in any hole that would stay still long enough, they were constantly stoned on a cocktail of uppers and downers and steroids, they had their election bought by the Mob in Chicago, COddly enough, this convinced

Thirteen Days is a good movie about this, if you can get past Costner's accent. Can you imagine what would have happened had Nixon won in 1960?

2012-10-15 04:39:32 AM
Um, you mean, "How JFK and his senior advisers almost started a goddamn nuclear war for no good reason"?

You hear a lot of BS about how those missiles endangered America. They didn't. The Soviets had nuclear missile subs. They had plenty of long-range missiles and bombers. Mass evacuations of US cities between first warning and actual strikes from those sources were already impossible. Everybody in Europe was already living with similar levels of threat. US missiles in Turkey had already been placed such that Soviet officials were only short flights away from them.

The only people in the whole world who became more endangered by the placing of missiles in Cuba were . . . senior government officials living in DC, who otherwise could be evacuated given detection of the launches in the USSR or missile subs closing with the shore.

Which is why they panicked. And they almost started a goddamn nuclear war in their panic.

A competent President, seeking to remove the missiles, would have have approached the Soviets with a back-channel deal where we'd remove our missiles in Turkey in exchange for them removing their missiles from Cuba. Which, you know, is the deal that was actually struck.

But JFK, even though we wasn't stupid enough to actually launch a first strike, had the US go ahead and do a lot of stupid public posturing with military forces that severely increased the risk of a nuclear war, caused needless panic among US civilians, got a US pilot killed, and ultimately resulted in the Soviets removing Khrushchev in favor of a hard-liner, rather than just cutting the back-room deal.

Being mildly less of a farkup then LeMay is still being a farkup.

So, he had nuclear missiles installed in Turkey pointed at the USSR, and got biatchy when the USSR wanted to do the same thing in Cuba? Then he pointlessly brought the world to the brink of a nuclear exchange?

Coupled with the intelligence that Robert McNamara had canceled the "Launch on Warning" SIOP that Eisenhower had instituted it had an effect, Oddly enough, this convinced the Soviets that the Democrats were weak and ready to "negotiate" away US power. So Khrushchev rolled the dice and bet he could move nukes into Cuba, and blackmail the Kennedys into concessions. The USSR had had another bad crop year, and needed food, again.

We'd have the KGB in Times Square with the First Thief trying to help them.

Every war that this country has ever fought has been caused by the democrat party because of the lack of military strength that was caused by their incessant cutting of the military in times of danger. If America is strong and shows resolve, then we would not face the threats we occasionally come up against with some pissant dictator. GW should have showed you that, but no, you will never learn because you cannot win control without placating all of the little groups of special interest that hold your coalition together. Instead, you will continue to flail your arms, only stopping long enough to point fingers at everyone else and remain the party that is constantly losing your objective, which is the total dismantling of the American dream.

Everybody knows Kennedy was killed by a lone nut. Why, Mythbusters devoted a whole episode to how Oswald was taught Russian while in the U.S. military in order to serve as an intelligence asset and 'defect' to the U.S.S.R. using a visa granted in record time -- oh, wait. They didn't.

I have a fairly strict rule: If the person I'm talking to buys into any of the myriad Kennedy conspiracies, I'm just going to let it slide and consider the relationship a wash. You can't argue with these folks. You'd have better luck with hardcore Christians. What does that tell you?

Its an incomplete picture.
Kennedy ran on the promise of closing a missile gap that didn't exist and had also fumbled the Bay of Pigs invasion. So it would be more accurate to say that he saved us from a war he had no small hand in escalating.

/Oswald didn't have much to do with the communists or the Cubans, he was just horribly misguided and opportunity came knocking.

"I think that a blockade and political talk would be considered by a lot of our friends and neutrals as being a pretty weak response to this," LeMay says. "And I'm sure that a lot of our own citizens would feel that way, too."

Notice how with 20/20 hindsight, the solution deemed "as being a pretty weak response to this" was the correct one.

A lot of people could learn quite a bit from this.

He did defect, and for some reason was allowed back in with a wife from Russia, and all in the days of J Edger watching everyone. Nope nothing strange there.

2012-10-15 06:47:28 AM
Oh, he saved us from the war he had been mongering? Thats... nice of him.

The only reason the russians wanted missiles in cuba is because we put missiles on Russia's doorstep... and because we kept violating their airspace, amongst a hundred other provacative things the US was doing at the time.

The fact is, we instigated most of that shiat.

2012-10-15 06:48:57 AM
Sigh, must be October again. What always amuses me is that most Americans think that this was unprecedented, when in fact the US had missiles in Turkey aimed at Soviet Union, so this was kinda like a "turn around is fair play" thing. Good thing for humanity both were removed, and I am in no way trying to diminish what happened, just kinda funny, like what we do is OK, but as soon as someone else does it to us, we go ape.

Yes, it's old news, but it's also the 50 anniversary. Maybe that's not that big of a deal to you, but it is to those who lived through the Cuban Missle Crisis, myself included. I was 10 years old at the time.
