April 12th? Dammit, I'm still waiting for this one.

i50.tinypic.com

I fully expect it to be awesome since the book is about a dozen different kinds of farked up. That and CLANCY BROWN!

No rape trees, though.

Rape trees? Is that some new reddit subgroup?

It's how reddit is getting back at SRS and Gawker. They also have jailbait solar panels and upskirt soup kitchens.

wow, so rape trees are not only written about in a headline, but apparently that earns an instant greenlight.

/can't wait for the next opportunity to submit a headline about rape trees...

I think I am ok with that.

It really was an amazingly well done scene... considering the budget and experience level of all involved at the time.

Per IMDB

Budget for the original : 375k

Budget for the remake: 14m

Produced by Sony

====

I really have no interest in seeing a multi-million dollar budgeted studio financed remake of The Evil Dead. The appeal of the original (to me anyway) is that it's basically Sam, Bruce and a bunch of friends and family with very little money (in terms of film budgets) with no expectations that anyone would actually see the thing but making it because they had a story and they loved movies.

I don't think this remake is going to have any of the charm of the original (though I imagine it will be a well made film and will probably allow Sam, Bruce and some studio suits to make bank - NTTAWWT)

They weren't some indie arthouse outfit, they were just poor. Now they're not. 14 mill for a movie budget isn't much if you're working with professionals at the professional level. It's not like this is some kind of 100 mill romcom or 300 mill special effects extravaganza. Go be hipster about something else.

Always thought Sarah Berry in the original was cute.
/especially as she danced as her head rolled on her shoulders.

It sucks when your Heroes abandon doing things with things you loved them in.

I get that time's past and that people were / are older. That said and done, we were all hoping for more vintage Raimi with the 3rd movie; what we got with DeLaurentis was by and large, Prometheus compared to the original Alien.

Meh. Cover bands sure can play the notes and the keys, but it never sounds the same.

"... showed footage from the highly anticipated remake of Sam Raimi's 80′s horror film 'The Evil Dead'. "

Remake? Evil Dead 2 WAS the remake. The only big difference is at the end Bruce goes back in time to set up "The Army of Darkness" movie. And ED2 came out just 6 years after the first movie.

"New" Ash? "New" Ash? There is but one Ash, and that is Bruce Campbell. And without Bruce Campbell, an Evil Dead movie would be nothing.

Should totally be a sequel with Ash dropping in on a bunch of teenage screwheads who found the Necronomicon. Screw this "remake" bullcrap.

Alright you navel gazing hipsters, listen up! You see this? This... is my lawn! Seeded with bermuda triangle grass! S-Mart's top of the line! You can find this in the lawn and garden department! That's right, these sweet babies are blended from all varieties. Retails for about one sixty nine twelve. It's got vigorous stalks, emerald green leaf, and wide adaptation. That's right. Shop smart. Shop S-Mart. You got that?

Exactly. The first act of Evil Dead 2 is a truncated version of Evil Dead.

I'm hoping that this Evil Dead remake is more of an Evil Dead 2 remake, and ends with the same sort of set-up for a remake of Army of Darkness.

I got dragged to an appearance of his a few years back, in support of one of his books. During the Q&A, he got pissed off when people asked him about a remake, stormed out, and had to be coaxed back into the theater by his publicist/agent/whatever. He was supposed to sign copies of the book, but after ten minutes the p/a/w announced that he would only be signing his first name, then after five more minutes only his initials, and then he just walked out and did not return.

one more excellent film that has no need to be remade. the whole Hollywood remake mentality is simply greedy cash grabbing and minimal effort. piss poor hip hop music filled with real artists sampled hit loops is almost as pathetic. film making is an art. film remaking is a steaming hot pile on the lawn. meanwhile there are thousands of wonderful books waiting to be made into films and thousands of writers with scripts just hoping for a chance. art reduced to money, film remakes, is the equivalent of fine dining reduced to fast food drive thru fare.

So, for betting purposes, are we considering these the same as "Angry Molesting Trees"?

Considering the success of Game Change I'm expecting to see Bruce in the sequel playing Romney.

2012-10-15 02:55:53 AM
The only way I'd see this is if they keep the humor that was in the sequels. I want to watch another serious cabin-in-the-woods horror movie about as much as I want to hear Freebird again.

Yup. That's what I loved about ED2 and AOD, the first ED has it moments, but it was the perfect blend of horror and slapstick in ED2 that put the series on the map. AOD was a great movie, but could have used some more horror elements and a little less slapstick.

Jesus Christ, THIS! For all this so-called fandom of Raimi and Evil Dead, no one seems to have watched any of the farking special features on every farking DVD release the got-damn thing has had. "They did it for the love, man! They didn't think anyone would ever see it!" Bullshiat! Raimi, Campbell, all of them flat out state multiple times that they did it because it would be inexpensive to make and horror was (and still is) extremely easy to sell. Everyone needs to drop the hipster myth of everything not made by a studio being solely some kind of bullshiat artistic statement. This is rarely true, especially when you're talking horror.

As technically impressive as the rape tree shots were (and I agree that they were tecnically impressive given the constraints involved), it cannot surpass the awesomeness of a possessed hand beating its previous owner on the head with a potato.

Wow. I went to an appearance of his several years ago, and he wasn't having such a bad day. Granted, nobody asked about a remake, but one guy at the back shouted a demand for him to say "Groovy!" Instead, he said, "No, I won't. You know why? Because I'm not your farking monkey, that's why." Afterwards, he hung out for about 90 minutes, signing books, shaking hands, and posing for photos. I got my first edition (I know wrote the forward for the second, but I don't have it) Deadlands book. Was expecting just a signature, but he wrote "Have fun. Play me!"

According to the Cabin DVD commentary, the SFX boys had to be told to ease back on the tree and make it "less rapey."
