r1niceboy: naughtyrev: Hate to be morbid, but if the chutes don't work, does he have an out of some sort in terms of offing himself, rather than hitting the ground and turning to jelly? Maybe pull a cord and a spike is driven into his brain stem....

You don't want to pull that by mistake. I'm inclined to think he's been hypnotised into thinking he's a whale.

Or a bowl of petunias.

blubaldnuglee: I'm a few miles east of Roswell, and there's a couple of helicopters heading in a eastward direction now. I'd assume they're the recovery team.

Good to know!

Flight just greenlit. Thanks mods!

geom_00: My math may be off, but how long is he going to be falling for?

I just woke up, but if my math is correct, if he jumped NOW he would be falling for roughly an hour...

/Feel free to correct me

Only if he was under canopy for much longer than planned because of some kind of malfunction.

Fogging doesn't look to be a problem.

they have automatic chutes and the space aliens will rescue him if that happens

Would you really need something quicker than "instant jellification"?

Yeah, but won't he know for a minute or so that he's heading to the ground? Would you want that?

As opposed to the thought of pressing a button to off yourself? I would take the jelly option.

Not like you'd live long enough to remember...or regret. My vote would be to spend my final seconds giddy with sensation, wondering if I would leave a dent in the ground.

Gosling: Need Help Soonish: wxboy: I would think they have a mobile ground crew following his track so that they'll be nearby wherever he lands.

Im sure they do... But those crews have to follow roads and such to get to him. We have places in this state that don't even have roads... Hell, we have places in this state that are still only accessible from horseback!

Google Earth says he's at about one of those places.

Egh, East of Roswell is not so bad... It's arid, and sparse, but we have plenty of oil roads. Also, if they are using helicopters, he is gonna be juuuust fine.

How does this guy fit his massive balls into his flight suit? Do they have special warmers for his balls?

Or try and strike an interesting pose in the off-chance you leave a Looney Tunes like crater.

Have they spent much time on the fact that today is the 65th anniversy of Chuck Yeager breaking the sound barrier?

Yeah, from where he is, he's jumping way out in the middle of nowhere. There's a long cliff to the east of him; he'll be at the bottom of that. It won't really come into play.

2012-10-14 01:36:46 PM
Does he still get the record even if he dies?

You never know with falls, either. A woman once survived a fall from 33,000 feet. [link]

They mentioned it early in the broadcast. Thats the only time I've heard them say anything.

What if he decides that he doesn't want to come out?

"Screw you guys. It's comfortable in here."

The camera lens they're using for that is kinda outside the price range of most stalkers.

How interesting.

Lego_Addict: No shots of his face since they reported heat problems with his suit. It's getting close to the target altitude.

That was over an hour ago; we've had tons of shots of him since then. There's a bit of fog on his visor near his mouth. For instance, in this post.

fustanella: Outside air pressure is 0.3psi. *gasp*

They listed it as -0.03 psi a while ago. I was amused.

121K. We're in the target range, we're just waiting for it to stop.
