I know I'm missing something incredibly obvious, but why are there such strong temperature fluctuations? The outside temperature fell to around -90, and then climbed to -40. What am I missing?

I still can't get the Youtube stream to work. I think we can all agree that the only reasonable conclusion here is that the stream was about to expose the fact that this is all being faked on a New Mexico soundstage, whereas the Discovery Channel special effects team is able to work its magic on the video they're putting out. Wheels within wheels, folks.

The explanation: "That's what happens in the stratosphere."

However, they claim that the higher you go, the closer the distance to the sun and therefore the warmer it gets. I just don't buy this. If that were the case, it would be tee-shirt temperature at orbit levels, right?

It's mostly due to the Ozone in the stratosphere, which absorbs UV pretty well.

The balloon has definitely grown in the reduced pressure. Only about the top third was inflated at the lower altitudes.

And now we're at about the height of Practice Jump 2.
