I just turned on the Discovery Channel feed. Took me a moment to realize what the display was showing:
46,112 ft 14.094 m

I get that Europe likes putting decimals in for commas in big numbers, but don't mix notation in a single display. Bugs the hell out of me.

EatenTheSun: How the hell are strong winds at 40k feet not a problem, but 2 mph winds call off the launch?

I'm guessing the balloon is a bit floppy on the ground and that little wind is enough to threaten it before it gets away from the ground. As they get toward the target altitude it'll spread out taut.

2012-10-14 12:11:37 PM
Stop showing that shot straight down from the capsule, I'm gonna puke.

Ugh.

drewogatory: bmihura: drewogatory: bmihura: http://www.redbullstratos.com/live/ has been showing me a video of eight white dots circling in the center of a black screen for the last 10 minutes, even after a few browser refreshes.

I am not impressed with their "live" video.

Mine just says "Please stand by- starting soon" although the telemetry is up.

I also have the telemetry, or possibly an animated gif that looks like telemetry. But numbers are counting up and down, yay!

Can someone confirm that there should be video on th red bull site?

I'm watching it there now. On Chrome, if that matters.

Mawson of the Antarctic: NIXON YOU DOLT!!!!!: Lt. Cheese Weasel: Roook: At what height is he jumping?

120.000 ft.

Somewhere between 120 & 130, they aren't sure exactly what altitude the balloon will stop.

Holy Fark!

I had plans, but I'm doing this today.

At what time do they think he'll hit 120,000 feet?

About another hour and twenty minutes or so, give or take.

I have video on the Redbull site. It's the exact same as the youtube streaming but with the added telemetry on the border.

Anyone got any Guile gifs on the ready for the Sonic Boom.

/This is crazy to me, in a good way. Think of this and with Mars, humans today can become more powerful than any emperor or leader that had existed until the modern day. We are like Demigods to them. Just think of the people of tomorrow!

//SCIENCE!

tenpoundsofcheese: NIXON YOU DOLT!!!!!: Ahhh_Ennui: SenorDan: Watching it on the Discovery channel...the announcer is really annoying.

Agreed. Also commercials. Blech.

Live stream from YouTube via wired.

This is not Live Streamed.

There is a 20 second delay in case something goes wrong.

Which I actually mentioned up thread. Are you ever NOT a complete tool?

trekkiecougar: Yep, the Warrior and I have been watching this online and on tv (Discovery and Velocity channels are showing it) since one hour until launch.

No one believes that I read about this in a Star Trek novel! Now I'm going to have to go to my local branch of the library and find the Star Trek novel that I read years ago that had Kirk and some other character doing skydiving that originated from a platform up in space.

that was the cut opening from one of the movies wasn't it? i wana say generations

No prob. If you're watching the feed, their estimate was two hours from launch, and that timer is showing time elapsed from launch.

Maybe their servers are somehow bandwidth-limited, since I can play any other video stream just fine. I'm using Chrome.

Star Trek (2009) had them diving to the drilling platform on Vulcan.

Right that what I was thinking, what do you do if you have 2h of time... if he was cool he play COD 3 or birds space some and just have a fake guy sit around and
read numbers, and adjust the o2

For for next project I have some data loggers they might use

Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of earth,
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
Of sun-split clouds, --and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of --Wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there
I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air...
Up, up the long, delirious, burning blue
I've topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace
Where never lark or even eagle flew --
And, while with silent lifting mind I've trod
The high untrespassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand, and touched the face of God.

seems appropriate.

There certainly aren't that many feet per mile.

They're using the European convention, the decimal is where we would normally put a comma.
