3rd sentence: "The epic Robocop remake has been filming in Toronto, Canada for the past month."

ZOMG! Just like the original movies and the tv series!

Do you know understand what "3rd to the last" means?

That sentence: " 'Of course, [director Paul Verhoeven] has that very special tone, and the reboot is not going to have that tone. It's a re-imagination of it."

So, basically, take the basic Robocop premise, and bring it up to date in a totally different way... ala Total Recall.

Movies were just so much better when you knew there would be a pinball table made of it eventually.

You ask for it every time you support something like Amazing Spider-Man or Star Trek: The Lens Flare Motion Picture or Dark Shadows.

I actually liked the recent Spider-Man movie and I saw the 2009 Star Trek movie on opening day. ( I'm part of the problem )

I'd actually like to see a Robocop inspired film. This is the inversion of it however. It takes everything from the film character and plot-wise and none of the inspiration or tone.

It may as well be Saturday Morning Watchmen.

Yes, yes, and yes. This is my problem with this damn reboot.

I love Robocop... a lot. Robocop is one of my favorite franchises of all time. I even tolerate the THIRD one as a campy fun romp. I wasn't even against a reboot, I thought it could work really really well. The concepts and themes of the first two movies could be, with some modernizing, applied to the world of today without any trouble.

But look at how fundamentally they screwed up something as simple as... well, THE TITLE CHARACTER.

I understand redesigning Robocop to look more modern, to look sleeker and maybe like he could get in and out of a car without a team of three people and an industrial winch. But that doesn't look like a cyborg, that looks like a dude in a suit. Look at the original... Look at the arms and legs, how they appear segmented, appear as if they come off with ease. Like they're not apart of his center mass.

Robocop isn't a dude in a suit, he's a machine with about fifteen pounds worth of human components. A brain, a couple organs, and the face of the man they used to do it stapled to the front of the metal skull. The struggle of this MACHINE to cope with the humanity forced upon him by the memories of Murphy is the crux of the characters story arc. Is he a man, is he Murphy?

But no, let's ape Iron Man and Batman cause those were popular. Forget a character design that lends itself to the story...

And don't get me started on the fact it's going for PG-13.

Look, can you people in Hollywood remake the bad stuff? Dredd 3D is getting great reviews, and y'know, that's a movie that should have been made because after the Stallone film, people still wanted a good Dredd movie. Man on Fire got remade, and no-one remembers the original because Tony Scott and Denzel Washington hit that ball out of the park.

Here's the movie I'd like remade: Brainstorm. It's a really great idea-based sci-fi movie, but it's also really flabby in places. And the original was supposed to be 3D, and Hollywood loves 3D and it would actually work in 3D.

Or Full Metal Jacket. Get someone to make the 2nd half worth watching.

You mean how it has 2 haunched legs and a gun. Well by that standard they may as well tape a 20mm vulcan to a Raptor and call it Ed. The original ED-209 worked because it looks like something that a manufacturer would make. It looked like you could tear it apart and have something that works under the cowling. The "transformer" look is so alien to practical design that it may as well be alien.

I agree that the old ED-209 looked a lot more convincing. I'm just saying that at least with the redesign, you can look at it and see where they're coming from. If they keep the humor of the old ED-209, I could accept it just fine.

RoboCop on the other hand, does not look like RoboCop, or even a cheap knockoff of RoboCop.

Dredd. It's the finest Robocop movie since the first. (Yes, I know it's not actually a Robocop film and yes, I'm aware of its British comics roots. Making a point) Dredd is a farking machine of violence and there's still a hint of satirical underlayer.

What made RoboCop so great was all the crazy details of the world. If they can't capture that they don't have RoboCop.

I see this movie's got a guy in a cool suit riding a cool motorcycle, presumably shooting lots of things with noisy explosions going on nearby. Woo hoo.

IMO with the possible exception of food porn which I kinda like, pretty much every example of porn is lazy and stupid and boring. Action porn, car porn, superhero porn, porn porn.

Ummm, we didn't go to see the remakes of Total Recall or Judge Dread this summer.

Since this is the director who did the original RoboCop I have no idea what to make of it. If that person on the bike is the new RoboCop then it's doomed. I bet he even becomes amorphous in some fashion in the CGI post production.

I'm not one of the R porn derpers "Uurm mah gerd, it needs to be R fer violence!". PG 13 isn't the same PG 13 it used to be.

That's all fine and dandy for action movies like the Dark Knight. It does not translate well with Verhoeven. Imagine Starship Troopers being made right now? It would be a forced PG-13 movie that in no way ironically exposes the fascistic absurdity of action films and action film audiences, the editing would be choppy crap, the dialog would have no sense of humor, and the action would be titless and goreless, which is exactly the over-the-top kind of thing a premise that ridiculous needs to be poignant. Oh, wait...This is already happening.

The MPAA being puritanically obsolete and having an entirely predatory sway over the movie industry aside, R movies are for adults and adults have money. Let us see and hear what the filmmaker wants to show us. We can handle it.

From that video in the official site this new Ed-209 is bigger than a tank, i think the size of a tranformer. They can still do a cool battle if he goes crazy in the city but this is not the point from the Robocop film we know

I don't understand Farkers. They don't want to see remakes of popular films, but if it's a remake then they want the film to be pretty much like the original or else the film will suck. All this anger over a film no one has seen yet. A lot of you act bipolar.

I'm okay with a remake that is not similar to the original. As long as it's entertaining I couldn't care less if the movie lacked things like the cheesy quotable lines the first one had.

Oddly enough, the 2012 "remake" of Judge Dredd was much better than the original, IMHO. Much grittier and dystopian than the Stallone version.

/ sad that it didn't do well at the box office

THIS

Part of what makes the original Robocop work is that it is clearly satire, and part of that is that the violence goes beyond gratitutous and into the "crosses the line twice" territory. The violence is almost like the violence of a comic book or cartoon which makes it hyperreal.
