I thought Bert Parks was already dead.

Vanessa Williams laughs as the Miss America Pageant moves to TLC to prop "Here Comes Honey Boo Boo".

Considering his recent DUIs and advanced age, I know several people who chose him in their 2012 death pool.

"Legendary" just took on a new meaning. If Collins was a legendary TV actor, what can you call Shatner?

He really should have seen it coming.

That show was syndicated as part of Night Gallery but the episodes were edited down to thirty minutes.
Even accounting for that the show wasn't nearly as good as I remembered it.

no mention anywhere of his Night Gallery gig.
He was the focus of all of the Night Gallery's worst episodes.
He played a paranormal investigator, the intrepid Dr. Rhodes.

Those were one hour episodes of "The Sixth Sense" edited down to thirty minutes and included as part of Night Gallery's syndication package.
But they were the worst episodes of that.

Oh man, and they had the cheesiest titles, like "Lady, Lady, Take my Life" and "Coffin, Coffin, in the Sky (aka: Flying Sepulcher of Death)." I didn't hate the show, but it was awesome that they paid Rod Serling to go on and make new Night Gallery intros for these to pad out for syndication. Such a damn shame that the show (and those intros) aren't on DVD somewhere.

Still, it's sad that Gary Collins is gone. You never see actors like him anymore: they had a few TV appearances or a small movie role that they rolled into some paid advert work that pretty much made up their career. Nowadays people like that are absorbed into voiceover work and are generally forgotten about, but Collins pretty much made that sort of career work for him. Well, work as good as it could, as the drinking was probably a symptom of a career like that.

Either case, a real shame. I wonder if Cathy Lee Crosby and Henry Winkler will be at the funeral, as part of the 'Never-Was' brand of actor.

Don't diss Henry - he turned what was supposed to be a minor supporting role into a breakout (and eventual lead) character in a long-running sitcom. That gave him the juice to become a director and producer (he exec-produced MacGuyver, FFS)
