I bet that's a fun job. I wonder what they pay people to drive around?

As my car is on street view in my hometown, I'm getting a kick...

\yes, really it is

My house hasn't been photographed yet, but my car is visible in front of my dad's house, so I've got that going for me..

I know I've told you guys this before, but I don't care. I can see my birthfather trimming his hedge (NOT a euphemism) 4000 miles away in Ireland on Street View

Let me see it or it didn't happen.

I've done it. I may be the reason that a Chicago block still remains off streetview.
...wilson between kedzie and sawyer- Knew they were missing that street, so when I saw the google car, I did some SillyWalks(tm). C'mon what choice did I have???
Over the next 6-7 months, kept watching- but no.... that block is still not on googleearth/maps.

Bastards.

Maybe if they used a non-descript box truck instead of the small car with the attention-whoring paint job things would go more smoothly.

If I saw it, I'd get into my pirate outfit for ren fairs and walk down the street.

A few months ago, I saw a Street View car in a gas station - the driver was fiddling with the cameras.

So I pulled out my phone to take a photo.

He saw me, and got pissed. "You can't take pictures of me!"

"Wanna bet?"

Maybe it would help if they didn't slap the giant GOOGLE logo all over the car.

This. Always wondered why they saw the need to plaster Google all over it. They could fit the cameras into a roof rack or something that didn't draw attention.

There are some roads where trucks are not allowed. Also, tolls cost more.

Plus, its kinda waste of fuel for a big diesel box truck vs. a shiatty sedan. Its not like weight is an issue.

And if Google used a nondescript car they'd get accused of sneakin' around to take their pictures.

This is the real reason they want driverless cars - the street view fleet.

That gives me an idea: get a cheap mockup of one of those rigs and put it on your car. Watch as hilarity ensues!

I caught the Google Car TWICE!

That one should have caught me in the window.

The next week I spotted the driver - the guy in the background - getting a coffee.

Another guy asked how many miles they drive in a day and he said he couldn't say. I wanted to know when I'd see the view from that first trip. Who knows.

It took like 2-3 months or so before I showed up on it.

\for the record, Rte. 24 in Fall River, Mass., northbound between Brayton Ave & I-195, I'm in the gray car behind him.

you do some suburban silly walks and they keep the street off the map, but there are pictures of dudes holding guns, dudes with blow up dolls, and that dead body in brazil -- those make it? it wasn't about you, dude. somebody on that block didn't want the block put up, therefore it is not up.

so, what type of neighborhood is it?

Subaru Imprezas are not shiatty cars. But they do get excellent gas mileage.

When they get around to reposting Hamilton, ON, they will have a pic of my son's car driving down Grosvenor Ave. My neighbour will also be happy, since the current streetview has a pic of her standing on her front porch having a smoke.

I think it's a bit lame mugging for streetview, but some of the random everyday weirdness really does make me laugh.

/It's hard to avoid taking pictures of somebody. Some of my co-workers had to take pictures of the houses/streets around here, and there was just too much porch and street life to avoid them.
