Kumana Wanalaia: PPS: Also, one of the colors on the palette is White. The T is white. It may (*may*) be possible to omit the printing of the White area, thus freeing a color. CustomInk's site indicates that this is possible.

True, but that would limit the shirt color option to just white. If white is one of the ink colors, any color shirt is possible. That shouldn't incur an upcharge since the same screens would be used regardless of the shirt color. An 8 color pallet, with one being white, sounds like the way to go.

Will they handle pre-press graphic things like trapping and color seps, or does our winning designer have to do that?

Good point, let's keep white on the palette.

You're right. There are 45 colors available for the shirt, 68 colors if we sell more than six shirts (snerk). CustomInk has in-house artists who do some stuff to get the shirts ready, and they have a customer support phone number and online chat during the day. I don't know what trapping and color seps are, but I think that the more "ready to go" the winning design is, the less likely it will be that our shirts come back looking different that we expected.

Actually we might want to order a couple of shirts ahead of the main order to work the bugs out of the design. I read a review of CustomInk where a guy ordered 4 shirts and he didn't like how they came out. We really don't want to ship out crappy shirts, of course.

2012-10-13 11:17:10 PM

Cyclometh: We have to be super careful that the donation amount justifies the perk cost. So for shirts and such, the whole cost including shipping should be taken into account. :)

Yep. Already considered. :)

I've been following this since it started yesterday and have finally managed to work my way through both threads, this is seriously awesome. Already donated and plan on giving more. One question keeps driving me nuts: How are there still people that don't realize this is about charity and laughs? Fark can't have that many idiots, right?

Also, I just want to say thanks to those of you coordinating all of this (you know who you are). I'd love to contribute more, but don't really have any specific talents that would help. Lets keep this thing going through the weekend and then hit the press hard on Monday!

Also, I would definitely donate a significant amount if it meant getting a t-shirt commemorating this idiocy.

I'm about to submit the photoshop and caption links.

Would you (or another TotalFarker) please post the 'O' in the photoshop link, (http://s7.postimage.org/logixcmq3/Biden_Trans_Am.jpg) along with the palette explanation "The winning photoshop has to be converted into either 6 or 8 colors. The shirts come in 68 colors so please select a full palette including at least Black, White, Green, Red, Blue, and Pink (the six color palette)"
and the two palette images (http://s15.postimage.org/68jtfae5z/6_palette.jpg) and (http://s11.postimage.org/yjjd01l6r/complete_palette.jpg)

And in the caption link please submit a post saying "In this caption contest, please arrange your text in a JPG up to 2550w x 3400h in size. Black text on white background, please."

I'm sure they have in-house graphic guys because they have to expect to get PSD, CDR, AI, IND and god knows whatall kind of file types and have to manipulate them for output to a film printer. I wonder if they will send a 1-off 'proof' for final approval, and if they can, does that cost extra? Just keep in mind that color gradients and photo realistic stuff (even if it's 1 color photo realistic) often comes out pretty crappy if the screen operator isn't very good.

/Donated $5

An eight track with Free Bird and Eastbound and Down on a continuous loop.

I have a ton of 8 track tapes with most of the mentioned above, but no doubt the car will be cassette or CD unless it's a real relic

If we do get an '81 pace car T/A I'm pretty sure they came from the factory with an indash am/fm 8 track player. whether it will be working is another story.

Ok, well if that's the case I can donate killer 8 track tapes for the car :)

It actually goes back even further. It was started during the Western days when mail coaches would travel through wild area and required a man to ride next to the driver with a shotgun to ward of bandits, indians and other various things.

RichieLaw, the white T I used for price quoting is the cheapest shirt they sell.

It looks like CustomInk prints in the USA (I'm not sure but it looks like it).

However, they have a category of shirts called "Made in USA". I tried to get a quote for a made in USA T, and it came out the same price as the cheap T. But the product index says those shirts are more expensive. I'll call CustomInk tomorrow and try to find out for sure.

If it's possible, obviously we would prefer that the shirts are Made in USA, not just Printed in USA... right?
