Here's what I've got for a FAQ so far:

---------------------
Give Joe The Bird Campaign FAQ

Q: Are you guys serious?
A: Well, we're serious about this, but not much else.

Q: How did this start?
A: A Farker (http://fark.com) by the handle "Hack Patooey" suggested that the Internet should buy Joe Biden a Trans Am. It blew up from there and in less than 6 hours from his suggestion we had raised over a thousand dollars.

Q: So this was just a random thing... give a Trans Am to the Vice President?
A: The original impetus of this whole thing was an article in The Onion, a satirical publication, describing Joe Biden washing a Trans Am in the driveway of the White House. This has become one of the more amusing political memes- the plain talking Joe Biden as everyman, the guy who would pound a tallboy of Icehouse and spend an afternoon detailing his Trans Am.

Q: Are you really going to give Joe Biden a Trans Am?
A: Not really. First, he's the Vice President and it wouldn't be cool for him to accept it, although we believe he legally could.

Q: OK... so what ARE you going to do with the Trans Am?
A: Ideally, we're going to buy the car, get it to Washington, D.C. and hopefully get Joe Biden to do a photo op with it- and maybe even sign it! Whether or not that works out, we'll be auctioning the Trans Am and the proceeds will be donated to four charities.

Q: Which charities will be getting the money?
A: Doctors Without Borders, GLAAD, The Wounded Warrior Project and The Biden Breast Health Initiative. Each will receive 25% of the funds at the end of the project.

Q: Why not donate the money directly to charity?
A: Because this way we get to have some fun and hopefully use the popularity of the Vice President, the silliness of making a meme become a reality, and the nature of the Internet to make it possible to get much more for these great causes.

And because- we're buying a biatchin' Trans Am for the Vice President!

Q: What happens if you don't raise the target of $25,000?
A: If we're close enough we'll probably try to get the Trans Am and roll with it anyway.

If we don't make enough to get the Trans Am and cover costs to get it to DC, the funds will be distributed directly to the four charities in equal amounts. Except enough to buy a die-cast Trans Am and send it to the Vice President. :)

Q: What happens if you raise MORE than the target of $25,000?
A: Anything not spent on donor perks, the Trans Am and the cost to get it to DC will be divided equally among the four charities.

Q: Is anyone on this team getting a share of this money?
A: Not one thin dime. Everything that isn't going to expenses like indiegogo's fee, donor perk costs, taxes and so forth will go to the charities. Nobody here will be taking any money you donate.

Q: How can we be sure this isn't a scam?
A: Well, we've got a lot of credibility on Fark, the admins there know who we are, etc. But in the end we can't really give you ironclad assurance; this is not a 501(c) or anything like that.

If you don't feel comfortable contributing to this campaign, please consider a direct contribution to one of our four charities. That really is the ultimate goal here.

Q: Is my donation tax-deductible?
A: No. If you want to make a tax-deductible donation, you can directly donate to the causes in question.

Q: This is stupid, Joe Biden can afford his own Trans Am!
A: Not really the point- we're trying to make a silly meme a reality and benefit some great charitable causes.

Q: Why should I support this? I hate Joe Biden!
A: If you don't want to support our campaign, please consider a direct donation to one or more of the charities we're supporting.

Q: Who's behind this?
A: This started with several Farkers. The original suggestion was by "Hack Patooey", the IndieGoGo campaign created by "RichieLaw", the video created by "coeyagi" and the voiceover for the video and other flacking by "Cyclometh". Many others have helped out also!

RichieLaw: Awesome. You're officially in charge of t-shirt and sweatshirt design. :) If you can't take this on, I'll do it, no worries.

I think it does seem reasonable and if we over the shirts for 30 and the sweatshirts for 50-60 depending on cost, we can still make some good gains.

Arg, my post blew up.

Okay: I'd be happy to help tonight and tomorrow. During the week I probably won't be able to help (much). I presume that this will be completed before friday. So I'll get the ball rolling here.

What parameters should be considered in choosing a shirt-printer?

Made in USA
Free Shipping
On Demand versus block orders (we want them on demand, of course, right?)
Order minimums

Others?

Also, Fark has the headline Ts, I wonder if anyone in the FARK hierarchy has any words of wisdom on choosing an on-demand shirt printer.

I will submit a photoshop and a caption contest tonight. If there are viable options, we might even offer more than one print design. I will post the suggested language of the link submissions in this thread for comment. The "O' for the photoshop contest will be the Onion pic.

Please, I need guidelines for choosing a shirt printer, or RichieLaw if you or another farker has a suggestion for which printer to use, lay it on me?

libranoelrose: I'm really beginning to think that these threadshiatters are not trolls, just severely mentally challenged.

Some are trolls, some are making assumptions and once they parse what we're doing instead of leaping to conclusions will end up helping out. Those who are here to shiat up the joint won't be convinced anyway, and those that are just incorrect will come around without us berating them. So best to simply let them bluster. They'll either get bored or figure it out. :)

Honestly, I would say the one that provides for free shipping and around 10 or under for the t-shirts and 20 or under for the sweatshirts. I would ideally like the donation to get one of those perks triple the cost. If it is made in the USA that would definitely be my preference.

The Facebook page is a great idea - but a lot of people like to "share" pictures for a cause. I was thinking we could caption something with the link and campaign name that users can post and share across Facebook.

The picture I attached is one of my foster dogs (Hank). I don't want to end up triggering any lawsuits for inappropriate or usage without permission so I just used something on hand. I'm not particularly funny or clever.

So are you considering taking orders for the shirts on indiegogo, then block ordering, say, 120 Ts and 75 sweatshirts (or whatever the orders are) and then you (or other farkers) manually shipping each shirt to the donor?

Or do we want each shirt printed on demand and shipped directly to the donor? (this is what I'm imagining)

Also, the mechanism for taking these orders might be different from printer to printer.

I'm going to start surfing these sites to get a feel for whats out there, please give me your suggestions and requirements.

Just an idea... couldn't we break down the trans am into less than $500 parts and then send them to him to be assembled later?

OR

Send him a bunch of gift certificates for parts to the trans am then have a gift certificate valued at $500 for labor to assemble his parts and present it to him?

I'm sure there's a loophole there somewhere...

I was assuming that the perks would be bulk shipped somewhere and then mailed out individually. That seems the most efficient and most cost-effective way. Unless these places are willing to ship the shirts individually without increasing the overall cost.....

Give Joe The Bird Campaign FAQ
etc. etc. etc.

This FAQ and the Press Release should go up on www.givejoethebird.com along with a VERY PROMINENT link to the indiegogo.com page. The way it is now, the link to givejoethebird.com on indiegogo.com gets routed right back to the indiegogo.com page. Maybe a farker good with HTML/CSS could make a cool index.html for givejoethebird.com. And maybe a "Media" page using FinFangFark's list...

Or am I just stating the obvious and this was the plan all along?

Wow, do you realize that this will triple Plugs charitable giving over the LAST FARKING DECADE, by 200%. Cheap Skate Plugs

Why anyone wants to help a miserly millionaire, is beyond the pale.

What's next, a rent party to help Soros pay the mortgage on his 12,000sft Manhatten loft?

Progs amaze me with their astounding levels of idiocy.

2012-10-13 07:38:20 PM

A T-shirt with a photoshop of Joe Biden in the "Gangnam Style" dance pose, captioned "OPPA BIDEN STYLE!"

from yahoo comments:

@Ronald: "Teabagging" is indeed what some homosexuals do. But they don't belong to the Tea Party. The group who wanted to buy Clinton a blow up doll gave up in dispair when they realized that they didn't know which sex to get him. A man who likes to be done that way too much is way too gay to be straight. And the fact that he married a lesbian from Wellesley should have tipped you off.

is he trying to say getting BJs from fat girls is gay? if so i'm queer as a $3 bill.

Kumana Wanalaia: RichieLaw: Also, do we have consensus on offering a shirt as an award at $30?

I like the idea. I think that there is more potential for lulz than just a white T with the pic on the front and a couple words on the back. Maybe a p-shop contest to cover the front, and a caption contest for the back? Or maybe just a couple of days to get a better design?

Also may I suggest that in addition to the T, that the hooded sweatshirt also be an option. Choices choices choices.

Another alternative back could mention

Fark.com
Give Joe the Bird
the twitter accounts
the names of the charities that benefitted
and other phrases for extra lulz.

"It's a BFD!" is fine by me, I'm just offering suggestions.

"It's a Big Farkin Deal!"

...just sayin
