In comparison to most prostitutes' mugshots here on Fark, on a scale of 1-10 she's a 24, even without adjusting for Maine.

I've never been to a prostitute (unless you count lap dances) but why is it even illegal? And why post the poor bastards' names in the paper? Before they're even convicted no less. That's farked up.

Lap dances are even worse than prostitution because you get the poor woman all worked up as she grinds and gyrates on you and then deny her the pleasure of sexual release afterward. It's cruel, really.

And if they didn't release the names, how would we have a follow-up link on Monday? Come on, man, think.

I thought a lap dance is so much better when the stripper is crying.

Not only that, but I think the fact that prostitution is illegal is what causes most, if not all, of the ill effects associated with it. If it remains illegal, it stays in the hands of criminals, or the prostitutes work alone and put themselves in severe danger. Legalize it, and you can make sure that there are working standards to protect the women, such as mandatory testing, and they don't have to work for mobbed-up pimps.

Leverage healthy companies and throw millions out of work = Job Creator. Catch some of those struggling millions turning tricks to get by in SOL states like Maine = Oh The Whore, The Whore!

If the client list still exists, then we can assume that none of the Bushes are on it. Or maybe Jeff Gannon is more to the tastes of the Bushes?

Selling is legal.
Farking is legal.
Why isn't selling farking legal?

Why is is illegal to sell something that's perfectly legal to give away?

Of all the bad things to do to someone, giving someone an orgasm is not even on the list.

Ive seen a bunch of her videos.. she used to post them on this particular site that i accidentally went to once or a hundred times. They were pretty hot, she took them all down a few months ago. She had vids where she was flashing guys sitting in their cars on the street in front of her dance studio, and a few crazy orgy videos. Shes a naughty naughty girl and i mean that in the nicest way possible. As far as i could tell she wasnt in it for money as much as she just likes to fark.

It's illegal, because a woman has no right to do what she wants with her body....oh wait, nevermind!

And why post the poor bastards' names in the paper?

Because publishing names sells papers. The Boston Herald had a long series about a prostitute who blackmailed a rich client. The reporters were obviously excited about the possibility of outing some guy as using a prostitute. They were literally counting down time until her probation ended and she would be allowed to release the name.

The problem is, legalizing some forms of prostitution doesn't make forms that should probably remain illegal (sex with minors or with trafficked "exotic" women) go away. In fact, there's some evidence that the demand for illegal forms actually rises. The illegal cases also become more difficult to identify and prosecute, because you're now dealing with a situation where (just for example) a legitimate brothel that has all the right records and permits and so on can hide its illegal operations in plain sight.

I'm not arguing necessarily that prostitution should therefore remain illegal. I'm just saying that the argument that most of the problems would vanish if we legalized and regulated it, is probably not as true as you think.

Interesting argument.

1) If you regulated and licensed sex work places and society stopped slutshaming sex workers, why would people seek out those places that broke the law?

2) It sounds like you're saying sex work places would serve the role that strip clubs serve right now, and with all the problems, but worse. That seems to make sense. I don't know what goes on in those right now and whether legalized strip clubs end up feeding illegal activities in some way or whether they serve to contain them. I would go with the former.

Anyway, I'm sure if everyone keeps being hostile to feminism, all this stuff will just go away on its own...

Because some women are fat and ugly and get upset when confronted with the fact that other women are so attractive that men are willing to pay to have sex with them.

FTFA: "Kennebunk police have begun issuing summonses to Wright's suspected johns on misdemeanor charges of engaging a prostitute. "

How can they prove that unless they can prove that sex was exchanged for money? Having your name in a hooker's little black book proves nothing, legally. It might be something for the townsfolk to snicker at but for all a judge knows, you played backgammon with her on Thursdays. (And indeed, I read an interview once with a high-end escort who said that about a third of her dates don't actually involve sex. There are a lot of guys out there, it seems, who are more lonely than horny, and crave emotional rather than physical intimacy.)

I agree that it shouldn't be illegal, but when you have lawmakers, lawyers, and cops seeing these prostitutes and then punishing others for it.....I have no problem with these people in power having their lives ruined.

If they have not been arrested, they should not be publicly humiliated.

But then, if they arrested the lady, why did they NOT arrest the men? AFAIK, being a hooker and the customer of a hooker are both equally illegal. Not arresting the men is discriminatory against women and biased in favor of men.

But then, as others have posted, why is the whole thing illegal anyway? Legal and regulated would be safer for everyone and end all this hypocrisy.
