Bathia_Mapes: GhostFish: Bathia_Mapes: GhostFish: I'm sure someone else has already pointed out what a waste this is.
Likewise, I'm sure someone else has pointed out that 20 grand would be better going to the campaign, or better yet a charity.

So I won't be a Debby Downer, and I'll resist the urge to say as much.

And I'm sure that it's mentioned more than once in the thread that the Trans Am will be auctioned off and the proceeds will go to four charities.

Of course you would have known that if you had bothered to RTFA.

FTA: That being said, the internet will still purchase the car and auction it off for charity. All proceeds will be distributed to the Biden Breast Health Initiative, Doctors Without Borders, the Wounded Warrior Project and GLAAD.

I already apologized. If you want blood, I'll go get a razor.

No need, but the apology is sincerely appreciated. :-)

I love you.

I already voted. I live in Australia now, but I was back home this summer and made sure to register for an absentee ballot. Got it via email, and just sent it back a couple of days ago.

/Good thing too, or I'd be tempted to write in Joe Biden.

CptnSpldng: RichieLaw: USA Prime Credit Peggy: VTGremlin: RichieLaw: I like this. Perks updated.

The $50 seems to promise something you can't deliver. The other ones are fine, but that one may cause people to donate $50 just so they can biatch that you didn't keep up your end of it.

Maybe a disclaimer that all "Perks" are not to be taken seriously. Or somesuch.

Unless you include "$5000 perk: you get to drive the beast to meet the president!"

I thought I made it pretty evident that those perks weren't real...I honestly dont think a disclaimer is necessary at this point....

Right? People aren't that dumb.

Ritchie, I don't know if you are a lawyer or if you just play one on the internet, but I would err on the side of caution here. I haven't felt so engaged in something in quite some time - so much that I blew off work today just to keep following the thread - an I would feel so bad if any hubris on our part were to trip us up and make us look and feel foolish.
I say "our" and "we" when I haven't done jack shiat to make this happen. All the credit in the world to those of you who actually did something to make this happen.
Can I bring up a couple things that may not have been fully addressed so that they can be addressed before a problem arises? First, does the "Internet People for Purposes of Buying Joe Biden a Trans AM" have to register with the IRS in order to a) be recognized as a bona fide charitable organization and b)not have the donations of everyone be treated as income for tax purposes. Do we need a Board of Directors or a steering committee? Have we budgeted for the legitimate expenses associated with acquiring a car, getting it insured and repaired/detailed (if required)? I would imagine the car would have to initially insured under a business policy which can be fairly steep, although it would only have to be for half a year...
I'm not trying to piss in anyone's cornflakes. I'm just an old accountant who wants this all to go smooth.
EIP if you want to discu ...

Thanks for your message! I actually am an attorney. My understanding of the funds from indiegogo is that they are not taxable as income. I do not have to report anything to the IRS. If that changes then I would have to keep some of the money for tax purpose or establish a non-profit. The process to establish a non-profit is too complicated and long for a one-off endeavor in my eyes. If we did have to incorporate it would be as a single member LLC to streamline the corporate formalities. This would also limit the liability and exposure for any D&O claims.

All the money will be paid toward the stated goal. If there are expenses necessitated then they will also be paid out of the same pot. But with extreme oversight to ensure that the maximum contribution is made to these charities.

Biden was a jerk. Acted like some crazed Uncle off his meds. Lost a lot of votes with his laughing and sneers (especially at inappropriate times) and his lies. This means he LOST the debate. Doesn't matter how you came across, if you lose votes, you lose!

In 2001 I bought a brand new Trans Am. It was a Saturday. I finally remembered to get insurance on it about two weeks later on a Monday. Not two hours afterwards, I proceeded to wrap said Trans Am around a tree. I did $25,000 worth of damage and they wouldn't total it.

I tossed a fiver in! :-)

I've been following this thread off and on since earlier this morning, and this tickles me no end! We need to make sure that it's appropriately stocked with the right bad-ass 80's music for a bad-ass bird...and, by that I mean the music that I remember listening to when I was in high school on the 8-track tape player in that big blond guy's Trans Am I dated for a while just to piss my parents off (and BOY did that big blond guy piss my parents off! I mean, WOW! My father absolutely hit the ceiling every time he saw the guy....good times, good times...). And, that big blond guy had a big ole shait-eating grin like our Irish Uncle Joe, too...good-looking boy, he was...ah, life was so much simpler 30 years ago.

Anyhow, may I start off the playlist by recommending the following:

Styx: Paradise Theatre
Meatloaf: Bat out of Hell
Journey: Escape

/Maybe it's already been started -- need to catch up w//this thread.
