CapeFearCadaver: Yeah, I think that's the last picture taken like an hour before the jackass on the left drove drunk, crashed and killed not only himself but one of his friends... in case you didn't know that

I didn't know that. Why would he post it?,

SuperTran: xanadian: SuperTran: GhostFish: I'm sure someone else has already pointed out what a waste this is.
Likewise, I'm sure someone else has pointed out that 20 grand would be better going to the campaign, or better yet a charity.

So I won't be a Debby Downer, and I'll resist the urge to say as much.

And I get to be the first to point out that it's all a plan to donate all proceeds to 4 different charities anyway. Thanks for not reading any of the pertinent information, and have a great day!

This is Fark. It's rare that *ANYONE* reads the whole thread, or any appreciable amount of it.

This thread is huge, so I can understand not reading the entire thread... but doesn't the actual link pretty well spell out the actual cause? Oh, but then the other half of Fark doesn't RTFA, so... nevermind.

And I've read the whole thread

/It hasn't been the most productive day
//most fun day in a long time...

Alright, alright. I retract my previous statement.

Please forgive my mistake.

RichieLaw: USA Prime Credit Peggy: VTGremlin: RichieLaw: I like this. Perks updated.

The $50 seems to promise something you can't deliver. The other ones are fine, but that one may cause people to donate $50 just so they can biatch that you didn't keep up your end of it.

Maybe a disclaimer that all "Perks" are not to be taken seriously. Or somesuch.

Unless you include "$5000 perk: you get to drive the beast to meet the president!"

I thought I made it pretty evident that those perks weren't real...I honestly dont think a disclaimer is necessary at this point....

Right? People aren't that dumb.

Ritchie, I don't know if you are a lawyer or if you just play one on the internet, but I would err on the side of caution here. I haven't felt so engaged in something in quite some time - so much that I blew off work today just to keep following the thread - an I would feel so bad if any hubris on our part were to trip us up and make us look and feel foolish.
I say "our" and "we" when I haven't done jack shiat to make this happen. All the credit in the world to those of you who actually did something to make this happen.
Can I bring up a couple things that may not have been fully addressed so that they can be addressed before a problem arises? First, does the "Internet People for Purposes of Buying Joe Biden a Trans AM" have to register with the IRS in order to a) be recognized as a bona fide charitable organization and b)not have the donations of everyone be treated as income for tax purposes. Do we need a Board of Directors or a steering committee? Have we budgeted for the legitimate expenses associated with acquiring a car, getting it insured and repaired/detailed (if required)? I would imagine the car would have to initially insured under a business policy which can be fairly steep, although it would only have to be for half a year...
I'm not trying to piss in anyone's cornflakes. I'm just an old accountant who wants this all to go smooth.
EIP if you want to discuss.

trappedspirit: Cyclometh: Yeah, we're raising 25 thousand dollars plus for charity on a whim started less than four hours ago.

What charity is this for?

Seriously, read TFA

If we raise the full 25k, we will buy the trans am, and attempt to get Joe to acknowledge it in some way (photo op, signature etc)

We will then auction it off splitting the proceeds between The Biden Breast Health Initiative, Wounded Warrior Project, Doctors without Borders, and GLAAD.

If we DON'T raise the full 25k, the total amount raised will be split evenly between those charities.

Yeah, he did a decent job in the debate, right after Obama was rated as doing a poor job in the debate (personally, I think Obama won the debate because I care about what people say rather than how they say it).. and now you're passing out the collection basket to buy him a car? For what? What the hell is wrong with you people?

It really has nothing to to with the debate itself, just that it's a prime opportunity to make an Onion headline come true and send all the money to charity in the end.

If there's no mention, I would think it's because the major media like Maddow would rather wait and see if the whole thing survives the weekend. They can't report on everything that happens on the Internet, no matter how awesome we think this particular one is.

And a picture of the real Joe Biden washing his new Trans Am in the White House driveway will be identical to the Onion Joe Biden washing his Trans Am in the White House driveway... and then the timelines shall converge into one, and then we shall know that the Apocolypse is surely upon us.
